Assistant Campus Recreation Director administers and promotes all non-varsity, club (intramural) sports and wellness program. Plans and organizes campus-wide recreational programs for all students, faculty, and staff. Being an Assistant Campus Recreation Director may supervise student staff. Typically requires a bachelor's degree. Additionally, Assistant Campus Recreation Director typically reports to Campus Recreation Director. The Assistant Campus Recreation Director supervises a group of primarily para-professional level staffs. May also be a level above a supervisor within high volume administrative/ production environments. Makes day-to-day decisions within or for a group/small department. Has some authority for personnel actions. Thorough knowledge of department processes.   • Summary:  Serve as an assistant to the Director of Recreation for the school/public being served in the local community recreation programs. This position performs a variety of general administrative duties, as well as a variety of supervision and field maintenance duties.  Must be able to work evenings and    weekends depending on the sport season.  Demonstrate knowledge of youth sports and activities, posses’ excellent organizational people skills.  

     

     

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Responsible for field preparation (laying out fields, painting lines, etc.)
    • Supervision of employees and facilities on evenings and weekends
    • Provide thorough training for all recreation employees
    • Distribute and collect recreation uniforms and equipment from students, staff and  coaches
    • Compile and maintain and accurate inventory of all recreation equipment
    • Collect registrations when the Director of Recreation in unavailable
    • Assist Director of Recreation with the supervision and evaluation of coaches
    • Assist with the development of coaching handbooks, brochures and other recreation    program documents
    • Runs errands when required (purchase miscellaneous supplies, make deliveries, etc.)
    • Attend meetings on behalf of the Director of Recreation
    • Acts as a liaison between the school and the general public by researching and conveying information, policies, procedures and laws
    • Greet and direct visitors
    • Addresses standard inquiries by telephone, letter, fax, email, fax or district website
    • Employee must have the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, staff and community members
    • Employee must exhibit a positive attitude, creativity, independent thinking and be able to take initiative
    • Speak, hear, see and write clearly with or without assistive device(s)
    • Walk, stand for the full scheduled period, with minimal sitting options
    • Adhere to all Board and District policies
    • Regular, predictable and physical attendance
    • Perform other duties as assigned 

    Other Responsibilities:

    • Maintains consistent, predictable and physical attendance to meet the requirements of the position
    • Valid Michigan Driver License with an excellent driving record

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • High school diploma or GED
    • Sufficient formal and/or informal training to provide the ability to read and write at a level consistent with the requirements of the position
    • Excellent understanding and knowledge of current technology and to utilize these skills everyday in the performance of the position

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Experience working with students

    Physical Requirements: 

    • While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be physically present, able to work at a desk for long periods of time, regularly required to sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; talk and hear
    • The employee is consistently required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
    • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 60 pounds
    • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust, focus, especially due to concentration on a computer screen and small numbers
    • Must climbs ladders to perform general maintenance work
    • Requires the ability to drive
    • All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations

    Supervisory Responsibilities:

    • Supervise students, staff and coaches 

    Language Skills:

    • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
    • Excellent communication skills both verbally and written
    • Ability to speak and present information to staff, students and the community
    • Ability to write routine reports

    Computer Skills:

    • Excellent ability to operate standard office and field equipment
    • Accurately prepare, create, edit and design memos, reports, letters and other documents

    Mathematical Skills:

    • Ability to add, subtract and multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals
    • Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs

    Reasoning Ability:

    • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions
    • Ability to assist students, parents, and team members with interpersonal issues
