We are seeking a highly motivated candidate with the passion for athletics, equity and opportunity for all students. The incumbent will be a member of the building's administrative team and will engage community members, coaches, students, and staff to collaboratively lead the vision of SHHS and our athletic program.
JOB SUMMARY
The Athletic Director promotes, develops, and administers successful athletic programs for student athletes. The Athletic Director is responsible for maintaining, organizing, and supervising all athletic programs, events, and coaching staff. The Athletic Director will also support the student intervention program with management of students who do not meet academic standards for school eligibility.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential duties of this position include the following. Employees in this position perform some or all of the following tasks. Other duties may be assigned.
Effectively direct and supervise athletic programs, events, and facilities
- Develop and manage a system for student athlete academic eligibility.
- Be responsible for communicating critical information regarding athletics to the district and its stakeholders (contest changes, weather, events, etc.).
- Participate and represent the school in league meetings and athletic leadership events.
- Coordinate and supervise athletic awards and recognition events at the end of each school year.
- Schedule and arrange appropriate supervision for athletic events in cooperation with the building principal.
- Supervise all home athletic events. The Athletic Director is to be present unless otherwise arranged and approved by the building principal.
- Cooperate with the physical education department to establish best practices for facility and equipment usage and storage.
- Development and management of the athletic budget in cooperation with the building principal and athletic secretary.
- Supervision and evaluation of all athletic coaches.
- Collaborate with coaches and other stakeholders to schedule practices and all other events requiring athletic facilities use.
- Schedule transportation for all athletic contests.
- Coordinate with the district to maintain facility function and safety and report any problems or necessary maintenance to the appropriate department.
- Authorize and oversee all expenditures of equipment and consumable supplies for athletics.
- Responsible for recruiting and scheduling the necessary support staff for athletic events (referees, ticket takers, line judges etc.).
- Prepare equipment and facilities for athletic events in cooperation with administration and custodial staff.
- Responsible for establishing inclusive and equitable protocols and standard operating procedures for athletic departments and programs (coaches manuals etc.).
- Be responsible for representing St. Helens High School athletic programs at critical stakeholder meetings (district, booster, and league.)
- Update coaches manual and standard operating procedures and provide annual/seasonal training to coaches and athletic staff.
- Be responsible for training and oversight of all safety related protocols for coaches and athletes (concussion, weather, etc.)
- Promote, facilitate and support student’s pursuit of athletic scholarships and participation in OSAA and other athletic organizations.
- Support administration with student athlete management and discipline.
- Be responsible for management and inventory of athletic equipment, consumable supplies, and uniforms.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Holds a valid teaching license from Teacher Standards and Practices Commission in the State of Oregon or is able to obtain one.
- Ability to assume a leadership role in the orientation of athletics and training of coaching personnel.
- Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of Positive Behavior Intervention Support
- Demonstrates command of oral and written English language.
- Preferred experience in working with children and families who are culturally, linguistically and racially diverse.
