     Director, Global Trade Compliance

    We are seeking a Lowell, Massachusetts-based Director, Trade Compliance, to lead the company’s global trade compliance program. We are looking for a trade compliance professional who has the ability to diagnose problems and identify and drive appropriate solutions. The person in this role must be able to interface effectively with professionals at all levels. The successful Director, Trade Compliance, will need excellent communication skills, planning ability and the agility to function in a fast paced dynamic environment.

    The position will be responsible for Effectively leading the Trade Compliance team and promoting compliance with the Export Administration Regulations (EAR), Office of Foreign Asset Controls (OFAC) regulations, economic and trade sanctions programs, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) regulations, the Federal Trade Regulations (FTRs) and other applicable import/export laws and regulations.

     Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Managing a team, by providing daily direction and communication to employees, evaluating performance and providing direction and feedback on a regular basis;
    • Developing, implementing and managing compliance programs to ensure the company and each of its subsidiaries, affiliates and partners comply fully with all applicable trade laws;
    • Ensuring that the company's products and related technologies are properly classified under the EAR and that the company obtains U.S. Government classification determinations of these items as required or appropriate;
    • Developing, implementing and managing trade compliance program continuous improvement activities;
    • Designing, drafting and implementing the company trade compliance policies and procedures tailored specifically to legal, business and compliance requirements;
    • Performing compliance risk assessments and tailoring trade compliance programs to address such risks;
    • Monitoring legal and regulatory changes that impact the company's business;
    • Developing, managing and conducting risk-based trade compliance training;
    • Conducting employee surveys and assessments;
    • Conducting compliance monitoring;
    • Partnering with and supporting business units and sales team on trade compliance issues;
    • Promoting a business culture of trade compliance and ethics; and
    • Preparing periodic reports concerning the trade compliance program for the Company's senior management.

    Desired Skills and Experience

    • Minimum of 7 – 9 years of legal and/or compliance experience with emphasis on the U.S. Export Administration Regulations, OFAC economic and trade sanctions programs, U.S. Customs and Border Protection Regulations, the Foreign Trade Regulations and other trade law compliance, ethics and compliance program management and/or development.
    • Bachelor’s degree required, JD degree and/or Licensed Customs Broker, a plus.
    • Extensive knowledge of trade laws, including the EAR, OFAC programs, CBP regulations, and the FTRs.
    • Ability to effectively communicate legal and compliance issues verbally and in writing in a clear and understandable manner.
    • Demonstrated ability to inspire trust and confidence through effective communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Strong strategic and process oriented skills are essential.
    • Ability to build and maintain positive, productive working relationships with all levels of employees.
    • Exceptional organizational skills.
    • Demonstrated ability to be proactive, exercise independent judgment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
    • Demonstrated ability to focus on critical priorities.
    • Strong work ethic and ability to produce high quality work under deadline pressures.
    • Travel, including international travel, may be required.
