    Job Summary:

    The Cross-College Advising Service (CCAS) provides holistic and developmental advising for students who are exploring their academic and career interests. Any student who is undecided or thinking about changing majors is welcomed at CCAS. Advisors at CCAS are knowledgeable about majors and certificates across all eight undergraduate schools and colleges. Our advising team serves students using multiple modalities at our main office and in five residence hall advising offices across campus. The foundations of our service rest on the principles of Belong, Explore, Become, and we strive to create a community where students and staff are supported to grow and develop according to their strengths, interests, and values.     CCAS seeks to hire an Assistant Director whose work will be organized around four themed areas: Supervision, Academic Advising, Leadership, and Program/Project Management. Please review the Tasks section below for greater details.

    This position may require some pre-scheduled weekend and evening work and reports to the Director of CCAS. Cross-College Advising Service (CCAS) is one of seven subunits within the Office of Academic and Career Success (OACS) which is housed within the Division for Teaching and Learning (DTL) along with the Center for Teaching, Learning, and Mentoring (CTLM), the Wisconsin Institute for Science Education and Community Engagement (WISCIENCE), the Morgridge Center for Public Service, the Rebecca M. Blank Center for Campus History (CCH), Indigenous Education/Our Shared Future, and the Student Learning Assessment (SLA) office.

    Responsibilities:

    Serves as a work unit leader on academic advising and related service delivery. Contributes to strategic initiatives, program, and personnel management, and strives to create a welcoming, equitable, and inclusive work environment.
    • 20% Exercises supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees
    • 10% Contributes to the conceptualization, development, and implementation of strategic initiatives to ensure alignment of strategy and operations
    • 5% Receives, processes, and responds to academic inquiries according to established policies and procedures
    • 20% Advises students and provides information about educational options and academic requirements. Identifies and assesses interests, skills, and values to match appropriate field of study/career options and refers students to appropriate institutional resources
    • 5% Develops and implements academic advising events such as workshops, panel discussions, and guest speakers
    • 5% Maintains confidentiality and accurate student records and processes and responds to academic inquiries according to established institutional and Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) policies
    • 5% Participates in the campus-wide advising community providing input to leadership regarding the development of advising, recruitment, and co/curricular programs offered by the institution
    • 5% Manages one or more specific operational area(s) or functional area(s) or program(s) within the central institutional unit
    • 5% Serves as an institutional liaison to internal and external stakeholders to maintain campus partnerships
    • 5% Maintains expertise with advised curriculum and may assist in developing and recommending exceptions for policy and curriculum
    • 15% Participates in and supports broad advising operations of undeclared and exploring students within CCAS such as SOAR, staffing front desk on-call, serving as a member of the residence hall team, and staffing other satellite locations
    Tasks:
    • Supervision: Provide supervision, coaching, and professional development support to CCAS staff. Could supervise 3-4 professional staff roles
    • Academic Advising: Serve as the assigned academic advisor to a caseload of CCAS students (180-200 students)
    • Academic Advising: Develops and maintains firm knowledge of academic degrees, majors, certificates and policies, campus support offices such as career advising, health services, financial aid, disability support services, academic & learning support
    • Leadership: Serve on the CCAS Leadership Team
    • Leadership: Leads or serves on CCAS and campus-wide committees and project teams such as SOAR, Orientation, Proactive Advising, Inclusion and Diversity in Advising, etc
    • Leadership: Assist with training and mentoring of professional and student staff
    • Program/Project management: Provide coordination and oversight for one or more strategic projects or programs
    • Engages in learning about diversity, equity, and inclusion of marginalized populations and contributes to a welcoming and inclusive environment

    • Five years of progressive experience in higher education, counseling, or student services
    • Experience coaching, mentoring, teaching, or training others
    • Experience providing direct student advising

    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Experience connecting well with others (students and families, faculty, staff)

    It is anticipated this position requires work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location, and with occasional pre-scheduled work outside of normal business hours.

    Minimum $70,000 ANNUAL (12 months)
    Depending on Qualifications
    The expected salary range for this position is $70,000 to $75,000. Actual pay will depend on experience and qualifications.
