The Athletic Academic Support Advisor is responsible for managing an assigned caseload of student-athletes and providing comprehensive academic advising that supports the guided pathways principles. This position delivers effective and holistic advising support services across multiple academic disciplines, acting as an essential resource and single point of contact for student-athletes from enrollment through completion of their educational goals. Using the guided pathways principles, the Athletic Academic Support Advisor will assist with clarifying student-athletes educational path through the development of academic plans, guiding student-athletes while on the path by monitoring academic progress and key performance metrics, and providing the necessary support and resources to help student-athletes stay on the path. This position must work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The following are the functions essential to performing this job:
1. Provide holistic academic advising services to student-athletes across multiple disciplines, including interpretation of placement tests, degree audit and curricular requirements, transfer requirements, career guidance, academic policies, and the application of College academic probation policies.
2. Assist student-athletes in the development of academic plans to include choosing a program of study, planning course sequences with degree audits, and clarifying educational goals and pathways that support student success, retention, and completion.
3. Provide guidance and assistance with planning schedules, registering for courses, and researching transfer colleges for next academic steps.
4. Connect student athletes with college services to provide holistic health and wellness support, including career coaching, basic need support, engagement in campus activities, and personal and occupational development.
5. Remain current in knowledge of policies and procedures around compliance reporting and assist the Director of Athletics with submitting compliance reports.
6. Ensure student-athletes understand content and structure of FCC programming including graduation and/or transfer requirements for specific programs of study as assigned.
7. Serve as the point of contact to inform student-athletes about alternatives, limitations and possible consequences of academic decisions (e.g. adding, dropping and withdrawing from courses; change of program, major selection, and/or transfer institutions).
8. Educate and advise student-athletes on current and future course planning and registration processes, referring them to relevant campus resources to meet their needs.
9. Participate in advising programs for student-athletes.
10. Promote student success by identifying and referring at risk student-athletes to the appropriate resources and track follow-through for data collection and reporting.
11. Develop partnerships with academic program managers and department chairs to establish advising structures that promote student success and increase retention and program completion efforts.
12. Evaluate individual student-athletes academic progress; including monitoring and responding to Student Success Alerts by assigned program/discipline.
13. Proactively conduct student outreach to student-athletes (current and returning) during specific times within each semester, monitoring progress toward educational goals.
14. Manage all aspects of scheduling for student appointments in caseload, document interactions, and complete additional administrative tasks as needed.
15. Apply best practices for providing advising services and the integration of technology.
16. Participate in comprehensive trainings and team meetings to identify innovative ways to conduct academic advising, transfer advising, satisfactory academic progress (SAP), and work in support of goal completion.
17. Work with the Director of Athletics on the continuous improvement of services provided to the student-athlete population.
18. Work with the Provost, Deans, and faculty to ensure academic success and degree completion of student-athletes.
19. Coordinate academic advising with the Director of Academic Advising.
20. Perform other duties as assigned
Salary: $64,382 - $70,820
