Purpose:
To use leadership, supervisory, and administrative skills to assist the building principal in promoting the education and social development of all students and staff.
Reports To: Building Principal
Supervises: Certified and classified employees assigned to the building
License: KSDE Building Leadership License
Qualifications
- An earned master’s degree with a major in educational administration
- A valid building leadership license issued by the Kansas State Board of Education
- School administration experience preferred
- Other alternatives as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable
Essential Job Functions
General Administration
- Assists in the overall administration of the school district.
- Focus in the area in the area of curriculum and instruction.
- Keeps abreast of developments in education administration and works in determining their appropriateness for inclusion in the administration and operation of the school district.
- Assists in the planning and implementing of professional development.
- Keeps informed of and assists in interpreting federal laws, regulations, state statues, rules, and policies affecting education.
- Prepares state reports and claims as required.
Performance Responsibilities
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other administrators, employees, citizens, and community members.
- Ability to lead staff toward instructional improvement and conduct staff development sessions.
- Ability to communicate effectively in verbal or written form.
- Ability to coordinate and supervise activities and programs conducted at the building level.
- Evaluate the implementation of programs within the building and provide in-service as needed.
- Ability to maintain responsibility for maintenance and proper utilization of facilities.
- Be responsible for the overall achievement, welfare and conduct of students within the building.
- Assists in the development and administration of policies dealing with discipline, conduct, and attendance.
- Communicates relevant policies and procedures with regard to student discipline, conduct, and attendance to students, staff, and parents.
- Assists the Building Principal with student expulsions.
- Works with and assists faculty in the development of effective classroom discipline and organization.
- Maintains an effective and safe school environment.
- Assists Building Principal with fire, storm and tornado drills on a regular basis and is able to implement emergency evacuations and lock-downs effectively.
- Assists in curriculum development to meet the needs of all students.
- Coordinates all advanced placement course processing, advanced placement course testing and concurrent college credit enrollment through post-secondary partner institutions.
- Prepares required reports and paperwork such as discipline reports, suspension reports, expulsion paperwork, discrimination complaints, injury reports, parent communications, and other paperwork as assigned.
- Assist in providing training on using and understanding data and assessments to improve student learning.
- Works with the Building Principal in the preparation of appropriate handbooks.
- Assists in developing, organizes, and administers curricular and instructional programs.
- Assist with the supervision, training and evaluation of teachers, sponsors, and coaches as assigned.
- Coordinates all field, gym practices, games and summer camp schedules.
- Coordinate and supervise all activities and programs conducted at the building level.
- Maintain responsibility for maintenance and proper utilization of facilities.
- Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as the principal and/or superintendent may assign.
Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions
- Requires the ability to sit and/or stand for prolonged periods.
- Occasionally requires the ability to stoop, bend, lift and reach.
- Requires the ability to travel.
- Must be able to work in noisy and crowded environments.
- Requires regular attendance and/or physical presence at the job.
