    • Maintain departmental safety, cleanliness inspections, participate in the Safety Committee along with accurate and timely incident alert completion.
    • Supervise employees within the IGU Department, including attendance, evaluation performance, and training.
    • Actively participate in employee retention improvement through turnover reduction programs along with leading interviews and submitting payroll for the department.
    • Take ownership of IGU processes from printing work orders to shipping.
    • Evaluate and improve IGU processes to achieve market leading lead times.
    • Collaborate closely with the Engineering Supervisor – Large Industrial Gearboxes.
    • Manage the IGU inventory.
    • Create an environment of continuous improvement by ensuring proper training methods (JI) are being utilized in the work area; maintain adequate staffing and proper tools and equipment necessary to ensure workload can be done.
    • Identify waste, problems with product flow or other problems within the department’s processes and solve using lean techniques.
    • Maintain proper product flow through the IGU department and meet the department’s customers (external, gearbox assembly, and shipping) needs; ensuring all external agencies (UL, etc.) practices are followed; working with Customer Service and Engineering to resolve work issues.
    • Ensure NORD IGU Gearboxes meet NORD’s quality standards.
    • Assist Service strategy for the Large Industrial Gear Drives products.
    • Implement and adjust processes to ensure timely production.
    • Continuously reevaluate and plan ahead to ensure sufficient capabilities and capacities exist to grow the IGU business for production.
    • Collaborate closely with GBN IGU team and other NORD subsidiaries.
    • Report monthly on IGU on-time delivery, overall lead time, safety, quality, efficiency and other process performance measurements.
    • Collaborate with Production Scheduling, Customer Logistics and inventory, Gearbox Assembly and the Engineering Supervisor – Large Industrial Gear Drives as needed.
    • Maintain a high percentage of on-time order shipments; creating a motivated workforce and a climate of inclusiveness; enforcing all company policies, procedures, and practices – ISO, Human Resource, Safety, or other; keeping the Kaizen board process in place.
    • Complete quality issue analysis (root cause- 5 Why), participate in Quality Meeting and Quality teams, answer all QN’s assigned to the area along with time completion of Quality forms.
    • Work with the Quality Department and the parent company to ensure customer oriented continuous improvement is facilitated along with composing and conducting quality audits.
    • Continuously improve organizational structure that will achieve sales growth and company objectives for safety, quality, delivery, cost and productivity along with timely completion of corrective action.
    • Maintain and procure all required assets for department to achieve goals in conjunction with IE department and actively participate in the improvement walks.
    • Actively participate in the company’s suggestion, quality, efficiency, and cost-saving programs. By providing support for developing the strategic direction of the Gearbox Department at NORD.
    • Draft edited JI’s for approval in accordance with global standard. Ensure proper use of JI and JI re-training.
    • Develop training plans for Gearboxes, implement the training and maintain training logs including forklift.
    • Conduct meetings (Kaizen, accountability) complete all standard work procedures and communicate with shift along with coordinating maintenance (entering tickets, projects).
    • Optimize product flow and productivity through supervision and employee assignment to meet or exceed on-time deliveries along with developing the lead to do the same.
    • Own responsibility of all operation aspects within the IGU Department, becoming a subject matter “expert”. This includes such things as assembly of Helical and Bevel Helical IGU units with or without complete drive package assembly, IGU disassembly support in Service, Industrial Engineering needs and adherence to the NORD global standards.
    • Control costs to adhere to the current budget and provide value added input for the following years budget.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

     

    Qualifications:

    • Education: Two- or four-year degree with a technical emphasis strongly preferred. OSHA/Safety and forklift certificates preferred.
    • Experience: Previous leadership or supervisory experience required. Gearbox assembly or repair experience preferred.
    • Skills and Key Attributes: Ability to supervise and train personnel. Strong understanding of the IGU assembly concepts. Great attention to detail.  Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.  Must be highly motivated and organized.  Customer focused attitude. Ability to develop further knowledge of IGU assembly functions and use that knowledge to help advance processes. Must be willing to take “ownership” of the area. Great oral and written communication.
    • Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Ability to sit/stand for up to 10 hour per day.
