    The Portland Art Museum and PAM CUT // Center for an Untold Tomorrow (“the Museum”) invites applications for the position of Protection Services Supervisor, swing shift. The primary responsibility of the Protection Services Supervisor is to provide proactive supervision and support to Protection Services Officers (PSO) posted in the Museum while maintaining a safe and welcoming environment during events, swing, and night shifts. Communication and sharing of information is key for this role. 


     

    The position will partner with the day shift department supervisor to oversee daily workflows, scheduling, and assignment of protection services staff. The Supervisor will support the Head of Protection Services by communicating policies and guidelines for the department, hosting re-trainings, and ensuring officers are in compliance following policies and procedures for the department and overall Museum. The position will report directly to the Head of Protection Services & Training.


     

    Essential Duties & Responsibilities

    • 60% of the job responsibilities will be conducted on the floor managing PSO and 40% will be administrative work
    • Managing workflows - ensure the PSO on the swing/night shifts and events are following all proper protocols, including monitoring the cameras, fire alarms, physical patrolling, proper written documentation of all protection services related incidents, dispatching, and completing various logs/files on a daily basis
    • Responds to onsite conflicts, actively engages in de-escalation techniques to resolve confrontations. Is aware of bias and practices bystander intervention techniques
    • Respond to calls for assistance, customer complaints or queries. Defuses disturbances respectfully. Escorts unwelcome persons from premises as needed
    • Work special events 
    • Provide leadership to visitors and employees during building evacuations and other emergencies. Is familiar with escape routes, exit doors, and emergency plans
    • Takes proactive steps to provide a safe and secure working environment to staff and visitors
    • Communicate Standard Operating Procedures and other protection services procedures and guidelines to PSO
    • Oversee and guide the completion of daily tasks, including the opening and closing of the Museum
    • As appropriate, help communicate and assist with the PSO training program in collaboration with the Head of Protection Services & Training
    • Assist with performance improvement plans 
    • Assist with the annual performance review process
    • Recognize and document performance as needed, provide feedback and coaching to PSO. Coordinate and refer to the Head of Protection Services as needed
    • Conducts regular walk-throughs on campus
    • Communicate and collaborate with the Events team to improve and sustain the customer service component of the department’s mission
    • Assist in new hire orientation and facilitating training
    • This role assists in gathering information and report completion. Maintains confidentiality. As requested by the Head of Dept, such as DPSST credentials or CPR certifications


     

    Secondary or Additional Responsibilities

    • Covering officer absences or breaks as needed
    • Responding to after-hours emergencies as needed
    • Performs other related duties as assigned 


     

    Supervisory Responsibilities

    • Supervision of 6 - 8 Protection Services Officers on the swing/night shift and those working on events
    • Assists with recruitment, mentoring, performance management, training & coaching. Serves as a leadership example being clear on the strategic direction of the department, being accountable and holding others accountable, and centering collaboration and the values of the museum  
    • Decisions are made within prescribed operating guidelines

    • Strong supervisory skills (preferred in a museum or similar visitor oriented institution)
    • Preferred knowledge of security protocol and procedures
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Motivate staff and foster a positive work environment  
    • Knowledge of Google Suite


     

    Education, Formal & Informal Experience, Training Required, Certification, Etc.

    • High school diploma or equivalent professional experience required to become DPSST Certified
    • Minimum 3 years of experience in a security field or related role  
    • 3 years of supervisory experience leading a team
    • Current Oregon Department of Public Standards Safety Training (DPSST) Unarmed Security Professional and Supervisory Manager certification. (If expired, it must be renewed within 30 days of employment)
    • AED/CPR/First Aid Certification (must be obtained within 30 days of employment)
    • Experience with use of force continuum
    • Experience with various systems related to Protection Services operations preferred (fire, access control, CCTV, emergencies, etc)
    • Less than lethal or defensive tactics training preferred (i.e. Reflex Protect Spray)
    • Certifications in de-escalation or other applicable intervention skills preferred
    • Other training or experience in managing hostile or aggressive behavior preferred


     

    Job Conditions

    • Non-Exempt/Hourly Status
    • Schedule/Hours: 40 hours per week // 3:00PM - 11:00PM // The start time can vary depending on current needs and scheduled days are flexible
    • Onsite/Not Remote
    • Evening hours and must be available to work weekends, holidays, and special events as necessary. This is a 24/7/365 day work environment 
    • Overtime and on-call as needed
    • Mandatory Security dress code
    • Works with emergency equipment including first-aid kits, fire extinguishers, and AED devices
    • Occasionally work outdoors to secure the premises

    • Budgeted compensation is within pay grade H ($26.27 min - $30.87 mid - $35.46 max), depending on experience
