Art Manager manages the creative design and execution of visual communications to meet an organization's marketing or advertising objectives. Provides internal clients with design standards, tools, and guidance on communicating corporate image, branding, and identity. Being an Art Manager oversees the design and production operations of all visual elements including publications, infographics, and social content, that are deployed across digital, interactive and print. Monitors projects and timelines. Additionally, Art Manager stays current on latest trends. Develops and manages a network of vendors, freelance artists, and designers to utilize for project support. Typically requires a bachelor's degree in art, graphic design or equivalent. Typically reports to a director. The Art Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be an Art Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.     Full time/Exempt/40 hours a week, Monday through Friday incorporating occasional evenings and weekends as needed. The Museum is an EOE. 


    The Nevada Museum of Art (Museum) seeks a Designer who is a highly creative, engaged, responsive, versatile and strategic design professional who possesses exceptional visual design and typographic skills along with advanced problem-solving capabilities. The Designer will build upon a history of elevated scholarship and creative work produced by the Museum by instilling design-centric thinking into the daily workflow and creative processes. The Designer is an integral member of the Communications Department, working closely with internal and external Creative Directors on a wide range of projects including but not limited to the ongoing maturation of the visual identity, design supporting exhibitions and programs, publications, website and digital initiatives, marketing and social media assets, and online publishing platforms. The position will advance the role of design at the Museum as the organization continues to expand its reach to national and international audiences, and to build and sustain public interest, awareness, and support for its mission. The Designer will continually strengthen the brand and voice of the Museum. The position reports to the COO/Deputy Director.


    The Museum’s award-winning visual identity and publications have been recognized by I.D. Magazine, Communication Arts, and Print Magazine, as well as being a four-time recipient of the Frances Smyth-Ravenel Prize for Excellence in Publication Design awarded by the American Alliance of Museums. 

    • Design and manage the production of printed and digital materials in support of the Museum’s many programs and objectives; collaborate with colleagues from Curatorial, Education and Public Programs, Membership, Advancement, Shop and other departments on successful implementation; ensure the museum’s ability to communicate effectively and creatively with all target audiences.
    • Design and manage the production of custom graphics, communication materials, and digital assets, including but not limited to publications and print materials, web page layouts and graphics, animated graphics, social media and video assets, email templates, marketing graphics and identities, print advertisements, digital signage, online ads, and online publishing initiatives.
    • Assist with the development and implementation of large-scale design and publishing initiatives including but not limited to the visual identity, website, book design and fundraising materials.
    • Work closely with internal and external Creative Directors, contractors and Museum leadership to establish and maintain the Museum’s standards for publication and digital production.
    • Develop and maintain an accessible graphic identity across all platforms.
    • Provide collaborative direction and support for web-related images and typography, marketing graphics, video, social, and digital assets, and online publishing initiatives; collaborate or oversee regular design contributions from internal and external designers and contractors.
    • Design and oversee the production of printed matter including but not limited to exhibition graphics, brochures, invitations, posters, identity programs, catalogues, signage and wayfinding; supervise pre-press production and press checks, and communicate production issues affecting design, schedule, or budget.
    • Design and oversee the production of select branded merchandise and other items created for commercial purposes.
    • Set and manage production schedules and budgets, supervise and mentor interns and design volunteers, and work collaboratively to ensure the timely completion of the Museum’s deliverables.
    • Participate in the on-going discussions of design in the local, national, and international community. 
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Requirements


    • Education and Experience: A bachelor’s degree or equivalent in graphic design.
    • 5 years professional design experience with an emphasis on print and digital design; or comparable mix of education and experience. 
    • Excellent visual design and typographic skills.
    • Exceptional ability to communicate, problem solve, and pay attention to details. 
    • The ability to work collaboratively with others including external creatives, designers and contractors. 
    • Ability to balance several projects simultaneously, manage and complete projects on scheduled deadlines, work alongside others, and manage/mentor others. 
    • Awareness and understanding of current issues and trends in contemporary design, technology, and the arts.
    • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Working knowledge of HTML5, CSS/SASS, and Basic jQuery/JavaScript required. Proficiency in Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Premier, and After Effects. 
    • Experience in comprehensive design standards related to institutional or corporate identity. 
    • Experience in print design standards as well as the press and production process. 
    • Experience in digital video, broadcast and motion graphics, web design, and interactive media. 
    • Possess understanding of online publishing, communication and social media trends. 
    • Experience working with project management tools.
