    Position Summary:
The Albertus Magnus College Master of Arts in Art Therapy and Counseling (MAATC) program seeks a full-time faculty to serve as the Director to lead and administer the program while delivering high-quality learning experiences and education for students in the program. The Director will engage in teaching, service, and scholarship activities and work collaboratively with colleagues across the College. Additionally, the incumbent provides mentorship to students and contributes to the visibility, impact, and reputation of the College and the program. The selected candidate will have responsibilities teaching in the classroom, clinical, and studio courses. Rank will be commensurate with education and experience. This is an in-person position.

    About the Program
Our MAATC program, established over a quarter-century ago and still the only accredited art therapy program in Connecticut, was one of the first in the nation to meet the educational criteria for a dual pathway to licensing as a professional counselor (LPC) and clinical art therapist (CLAT), in addition to national board certification as an art therapist. Housed in the Department of Psychology and operated collaboratively with department psychologists, the program takes pride in its high standards of clinical training, an extensive network of internship sites, and the many students whose thesis projects have won national awards for arts-based research.

    Essential Functions:

    • Deliver didactic, laboratory, and/or experiential learning instruction in the MAATC program.
    • Teach a load of 18/24 credits of graduate teaching, primarily in MAATC, per year (or the equivalent of a 4:4 load with time release/compensation for director duties).
    • Serve as primary academic advisor for students in the program, including supervision of Master’s thesis
    • Hold a minimum of five hours of office hours per week
    • Serve as an academic advisor for students in the program
    • Oversee course scheduling
    • Assure staffing and delivery of all Master of Arts in Art Therapy and Counseling Program courses
    • Oversee program assessment, LPC state licensing educational requirements, and ongoing CAAHEP accreditation
    • Orient and mentor program faculty, oversee student organization activities, and graduate assistants, as applicable
    • Participate in outreach and recruitment efforts, including review of applicants, interview process, informational sessions, and social media content for recruitment
    • Oversee program-related events (annual art shows, guest speakers, alumni panels)
    • Any additional duties as reasonably required pursuant to the policies of the Master of Arts in Art Therapy and Counseling Program and the Academic Affairs administration

    Required Qualifications:

Registered, board-certified Art Therapist (ATR-BC) and a state of CT Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) with an appropriate master’s degree and at least five years’ post-Master’s experience, including a combination of clinical practice, college-level teaching, and administrative or supervisory responsibilities. An earned doctorate (in Psychology, Counselor Education, Art Therapy, Expressive Arts Therapies, or related) is preferred.

    Experience:
Other desirable qualities include experience with graduate-level education and/or supervision of clinical trainees, familiarity with empirical research methods and current trends in clinical and/or art therapy research, a track record of scholarship (e.g., publications, presentations at professional conferences), a track record of artistic creation (e.g., a personal art-making practice that may include exhibitions at the juried show, familiarity with accreditation or credentialing bodies, licensure (e.g., as and art therapist, and professional counselor), and a history of service to the profession.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

The successful candidate will, above all, possess a deep understanding of the theory and practice of art therapy and the ability to convey this expertise to graduate students. The ability to speak and write lucidly, to listen and respond reflectively to questions, to guide discussions and activities, to edit and comment meaningfully on student work, and to manage course expectations – these are perhaps most essential. In addition, the ability to maintain program organization, act as the program’s public face (e.g., in recruiting students), and engage collaboratively with colleagues are crucial to success. Studio art skills must be strong enough to guide student work effectively. Computer skills must be adequate to utilize course management systems and program databases.

    Working Conditions:
Evening and weekend hours are required.
