Being an Applications Programming Manager reviews development proposals, projects, timelines, resources, and costs. Leads feedback processes for peer reviews, code reviews, and design reviews.     Description

    The RF Systems Division within Leidos Defense Systems is seeking a talented Department Manager to join and lead a diverse team creating unique software solutions for complex problems for our Huntsville, Alabama office.

    The Department Manager of the Computer Applications Department will lead a department of approximately 56 talented software engineers and developers. The department's projects primarily involve software development and software life-cycle management for United States Army, Air Force, and NASA customers. The department supports systems and software engineering for weapon systems, UAS trainer systems, wargaming simulations, firmware development, and test-range support. The department provides development, software assurance, user experience, and software testing expertise for programs and projects across the enterprise. Emphasis is placed on the assorted utilization of existing and leading-edge tools to provide cost-effective and timely solutions to our customer. The department has strong capability and experience in executing programs under CMMI and agile processes. The department consists of developers with strong fundamental skills that value using best practices and exceeding customer expectations.

    Primary Responsibilities

    The individual filling this position will work with a wide spectrum of personnel including Leidos Defense Sector senior leadership, program managers, technical experts, and support staff. A successful candidate will:
    Collaborate across and within Leidos Sectors in the pursuit, development, and execution of projects relevant to the department.
    Cultivate and continually strengthen existing customer relationships while working to develop new customer relationships.
    Take responsibility for growth and development by overseeing and conducting interviewing, hiring, conducting employee performance reviews, and addressing performance issues.
    Work with direct reports to continually develop the talent and capabilities of the team to meet the growing demands of our customers and the accelerating pace of technology change.
    Craft short-, medium-, and long-term goals for the department and break them into actionable and achievable steps, then execute a plan to achieve these goals.
    Plan and execute financial commitments for programs within the department.
    Be responsible for forecasting and data calls including financial, staffing, seating, among others.

    Basic Qualifications

    Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, software engineering, electrical engineering, business management, or a related field.
    A minimum of 12 years of relevant job experience.
    A minimum of 4 years of personnel management experience.
    A minimum of 3 years' experience leading a software development project in some capacity.
    Proven ability to build and maintain relationships across all levels and functional area of an organization.
    Must possess strong interpersonal communication skills and presentation skills.
    Proven desire to initiate, develop and pursue and expand customer base through well-selected procurements and IRAD projects.
    Ability to manage, forecast, and report department budget/projections to higher level management.

    Candidate must be a resident of the North Alabama area or willing to relocate to the Huntsville - North Alabama, AL area.

    Candidate must possess and be able to maintain a final SECRET security clearance.

    Preferred Qualifications
    Familiarity with Army/AFC/DEVCOM/AvMC/S3I/JSIL operation, particularly UAS Trainers and wargaming simulations.
    Ability to attract and retain highly talented individuals and develop leaders and competent staff members to build organization.
    Ability to build collaborative teams with Dynetics, Government, and other contractor personnel to best meet the needs of the customer.
    Willingness and desire to invest time in coaching and mentoring others.
    Possesses the highest of ethical standards, demonstrated by day-to-day actions; and possess the ability to set the ethical tone for the organization.

    Pay Range: Pay Range $144,300.00 - $260,850.00

Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
