Additionally, Applications Programming Manager establishes a performance culture by incorporating individual and team coaching and mentoring to achieve excellence. May manage outsourcing budgets, vendors, or off-shore resources. Typically requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent. Typically reports to a director. The Applications Programming Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be an Applications Programming Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.     Position Summary:  This position is responsible for medical laboratory testing and limited radiological services at the NASA Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) Occupational Health Clinic.


    Licenses/Certifications/Education/Training:

    • ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologist) license
    • Associates Degree with 2 years of experience in the field or related area
    • Basic Life Support (BLS)


    Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities:

    • Arranges patients for radiological examinations.
    • Produces radiographs (x-rays) to aid in the diagnosis of medical problems.
    • Perform Phlebotomy procedures on patients as requested.
    • Performs a variety of routine tests, drawing blood and laboratory procedures in a medical laboratory for use in diagnosis and treatment of disease.
    • Conducts urinalysis, clinical chemistry tests and blood counts.
    • Prepares chemical reagent stains and solutions.
    • Tends automatic equipment to prepare specimens and perform analytic tests.
    • Makes preliminary identification of bacterial cultures subject to confirmation of supervisor.
    • Maintains laboratory stock of chemicals and glassware.
    • May collect specimens from patients.
    • Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within the field, relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job, and works under immediate supervision.
    • Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
    • Ability to work within defined time requirements and ensure deadlines are met.
    • Demonstrate strong organizational interpersonal skills.
    • Demonstrate effective personal interaction.
    • Ability to determine appropriate course of action in more complex situations.
    • Ability to work with teams, as well as independently.
    • Ability to handle difficult situations involving personnel, customers, or others in a professional manner.
    • Ability to maintain composure during emergency or stressful situations.
    • Ability to maintain appropriately private and confidential information.
    • Knowledge and application of laws and regulations governing health information (i.e. Privacy Act of 1974, HIPAA, etc.)
    • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and organizational skills.
    • Proficient in oral and written communication (e.g., writing reports, e-mail correspondence, oral presentations, compilation of data, data manipulation, basic computer skills, standard office software utilizing Microsoft Office and the Internet)

    • Subject to drug testing (chemical substances)-Drug Free Workplace Act 1988

Specific visual abilities required by the job include close vision, distant vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust and focus.
    • Work Environment: Work will mainly be performed at the MSFC OHS clinic and will involve frequent contact with other employees, customers, clients, representatives and vendors. You may come in contact with patient body fluids, potential for puncture wounds from sharps; work may be stressful at times; interaction with others is frequent and may be interruptive; opportunities for local travel may occur; the noise level in the work environment is usually minimal.
