    GENERAL STATEMENT:

    The purpose of Salvation Army camping is to serve the needs of campers: physical, social, and spiritual. For

    physical needs, our aim is to help campers develop good health habits in cleanliness, proper rest, balanced diet,

    exercise, and care of the body. To meet social needs, the camp provides an opportunity for each camper to

    contribute to and receive from a group living experience. The aim is to help campers make their own right

    decisions, stimulate creativity and foster independence. We meet the campers' spiritual needs by integrating

    concern for the spiritual dimension of life in all parts of the experience. These purposes are achieved through

    carefully selected staff, well-planned programs that have clear objectives, and the highest standards of health

    and safety.

    SCOPE OF POSITION:

    The Camp Gifford Business Director will be responsible for the success of the Camp Gifford business, marketing, and income plans. The individual will also be responsible to supervise all year round and seasonal operations staff at Camp Gifford.The Business Director will be the ministry leader for the staff and volunteers they supervise and will maintain the focus of presenting the gospel of Christ and providing a positive experience to all who visit Camp Gifford. The Business Director will be responsible for all rentals, operations, finances, and personnel requirements for Camp Gifford.

    WORK SCHEDULE:

    This is a Christian ministry position. Due to the nature of the programs that take place at the Salvation Army, scheduled work hours will be adjusted as program needs require and can change with minimum notice. This position and its direct connection with the spiritual purpose and goals of the Salvation Army. The employee must consider The Salvation Army Spokane their home Corps/church and work in conjunction with the leadership goals of the Corps Officer to see those goals move from objectives to reality. The employee is expected to attend services every Sunday except those excused due to authorized program activities, vacation, or illness.

    DRESS CODE:

    Salvation Army uniform is encouraged for worship and community services. Office attire is prescribed in the Employee Handbook. For youth programing, attire appropriate for the activity and as prescribed in the employee handbook is authorized.

    EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:

    • AA required, BA degree preferred
    • A degree in hotel management and a minimum of 5 years' experience in hotel management or conference hotel event sales preferred
    • Minimum of 3 years manager level supervision experience
    • Minimum of 3 years summer camp work is preferred
    • Minimum of 4 years of experience in working with children desired

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

    • A firm understanding of Microsoft excel is required
    • Ability to produce profit and loss statements
    • Knowledge of marketing and sales techniques to produce results
    • Knowledge of VRBO sales
    • Contract creation, management, and maintenance
    • Experience with managing property projects
    • Must be able to utilize all necessary office and ministry equipment adequately (i.e. computers, copy machines, video projectors, etc.)
    • Strong use of the English language in verbal and written communication
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and maintain poise under pressure
    • Understanding of the development needs of youth
    • Must Possess a valid Washington State License and pass both a Motor Vehicle background check and TSA driver training course
    • Must possess a thorough working knowledge of, and give competent instruction in, the basics of the Christian faith in accordance with Salvation Army doctrine
    • Must be aware of, implement, and observe all necessary Child Safety (Protecting the Mission) policies; must complete and adhere to Protecting the Mission requirements and guidelines, including the ability to pass a TSA background check
    • Ability to work independently or with other staff members
    • Ability to plan, implement, and evaluate outreach programs that will be used to draw people to Jesus and consider The Salvation Army as a church home
    • Ability to work and conduct oneself in a professional manner
    • Must be able to keep work area organized, have good time management skills, and be able to complete necessary reports in a timely manner

    • Current CPR/First Aid Certification

    SOFTWARE RELATED SKILLS:

    • Working knowledge and ability to use computer systems, including Office 365, PowerPoint, Access, Word, and Excel
    • Working knowledge of web applications such as: Facebook, Google Calendar, Sign up genius, and other social media programs
    • Working knowledge of all Salvation Army computer applications
    • Working knowledge of integrated database applications and ability to use new software programs with basic training

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Marketing and Sales/Rentals

    • Ensure success of the Camp Gifford business, marketing, and income plans
    • Responsible for all portions of the camp sales process including the development and management of profit statements for the individual camp rentals
    • Training of EOC Camp Hosts in Spokane Citadel's kitchen at the direction of Spokane Citadel's cook.
    • Training of EOC Camp Hosts in customer service
    • Manage all aspects of VRBO web site
    • Responsible for scheduling and providing the use of the Camp Gifford and its facilities during the months of September through May to those groups and individuals that may want to utilize the camp and its facilities. The Business Director will:
      • Recruit and promote the use of the Camp Gifford to community groups, churches, other non-profit groups, schools, or businesses that may want to utilize the Camp for their own program needs.
      • Process contracts with Spokane Citadel business department
      • Ensure that all participating groups follow the camp rules.
        • Ensure that groups who may want to use alcohol, cigarettes, drugs, or other activities not in keeping with The Salvation Army's requirements are not allowed to use the Camp Gifford.
      • Collect the proper fees as outlined in camp Gifford business, marketing and income plans, and submit to the Spokane Corps finance office,
      • Ensure the insurance requirements for outside users are fully executed prior to the camps use by non-Salvation Army groups.
      • Schedule retreat hosts and assistants to cover the needs of the rentals at the level allowed in the Camp Gifford business, marketing and income plans.
      • Follow up on any vandalism caused by other groups using the camp and take the necessary steps to ensure restitution for damages.
      • Ensure that waterfront activities are supervised by a certified lifeguard, and that there will be no utilization of the waterfront or watercraft without proper supervisor, authorization or by anyone who does not have a valid boater's card.

    Property

    • Maintenance-property, deferred maintenance, fleet and inventory, housekeeping and housekeeping staff, and tracking of maintenance for all parts of camp
    • Preparing camp building projects for review and approval by the Spokane Corps officer.
    • Maintaining and improving Camp recreation areas and equipment
    • Overseeing the work of the Camp Maintenance Director to ensure that the camp property is kept in a clean and sanitary condition, giving direction and obtaining information for securing material for the Maintenance Director to keep the camp maintained.
    • Develop work priority for the Camp Maintenance Director and their team
    • Ensure that all physical facilities are in good repair; address with the Spokane Corps Officer plans to repair and upgrade facilities that require adequate funding to be budgeted.

    Public Relations

    • With the help of the Salvation Army Development and PR team develop the PR and marketing plan for camp that will meet the goals of the Camp Gifford business, marketing and income plans
    • Provide information and new content to the volunteer coordinator for inclusion in the reader board, web page and Facebook posts
    • Secure and maintain outside groups rentals as outlined in Camp Gifford business, marketing and income plans.
    • Enforce all personnel policies according to Salvation Army policy and procedures as outlined by The Salvation Army personnel handbook for employees and according to Salvation Army Western Territory Procedures.
      • All communication regarding hiring and suspension procedures shall be handled with the Personnel Office of the Spokane Corps.
      • The Director must be able to work with the Personnel Office to ensure that personnel matters are handled in a professional, expedient manner.
    • Shall establish themselves in the Spokane/Deer Lake/Look Lake and surrounding small communities in order to promote community relations and market the availability of Camp Gifford to the general public, as well as general groups and organizations in the geographical area appropriate for outside renters to utilize Camp Gifford.

    Program

    The Salvation Army Spokane Youth (assistant) Officer will be responsible for the summer camping program. The Camp Gifford Business Director shall be responsible to work with the Salvation Army Spokane Youth Officer and ministry team to develop and implement the summer camping program and to give direction and oversight to staff assigned to carry out the program as needed.

    The Camp Gifford Business Director may be asked to:

    • Work with The Salvation Army Spokane HR department for the hiring/firing of all Seasonal Summer staff
    • Provide supervision and lead weekly prayer and devotions for full-time and seasonal operations staff.
    • Develop work schedules that avoid overtime and properly cover the needs of camp programing.
    • Work with The Salvation Army Spokane ministry team to provide yearly editing of the Summer Camp staff manual
    • Provide staff orientation training making sure that all information pertinent to Salvation Army standards are communicated in training sessions and manual for Summer Camp staff.
    • Look for new and innovative programs that may promote up-to-date Summer Camping activities for all Summer Campers.
    • Assist in ensuring that all Summer Campers are adequately supervised at all times, and that under no circumstance are left alone in their cabins without proper staff supervision.
    • Assist in managing Summer Camper disciplinary concerns.
      • Communicate directly with parents regarding disciplinary actions and ensure follow-up communication, if necessary. In the cases of potential harm or endangerment to staff and/or campers the camp business director is required to inform the parents and the Spokane Corps Officer directly of the seriousness of the situation and resolution.
      • The camp business director is also authorized to discharge campers who disrupt or cause danger to other staff and campers that is serious in nature.
      • Ensure that Protect the Mission policies are enforced and followed by all staff, volunteers, and Summer Campers.
      • File written incident reports of all camper and staff accidents, incidents, disciplinary problems, and any situations that require documentation.
    • Follow up with those campers making spiritual decisions at Camp Gifford

    The Camp Gifford Business Director is responsible for:

    • supervision of the USDA program and food services (operational staff, menus, etc)
    • Training the staff for all emergency procedures regarding evacuations, fire and potential hazards.
    • Ensuring that all staff have the required training for first aid and CPR, and that proper first aid kits and infirmary are properly supplied with medical and first aid supplies.
    • Ensure that all facilities are prepared and ready on time to accommodate the summer camping programs, that all facilities are maintained throughout the Summer Camping season, and are in good condition at the close of the season.

    General

    • Attend and participate in the weekly managers meeting
    • Attend the different weekly and monthly Campus staff and house meetings on a rotating basis
    • Ensure all safety protocols and policies followed
    • The Camp Gifford business director shall work with The Advisory Board committee assigned to the Summer Camping program and shall promote and discuss with the committee the operations and plans for current and future use of Summer Camp Gifford.
    • Cooperate with orientation from the Personnel and Finance Departments given by the Spokane Corps Officer for a full understanding of operational and Salvation Army policies and procedures as related to contractual agreements, personnel policies and management, financial policies and management and budget control.
    • The camp business director shall maintain a standard of cleanliness in living quarters and with personal hygiene to set a good example for the staff, volunteers and campers.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    • Must be in good physical health and mental health, capable of meeting program demands
    • Participate in child ministry physical activities
    • Sit, move, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel and twist on intermittent or continuous basis
    • Grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers, and reach overhead
    • Lift and carry up to 40 pounds

    Qualified individuals must be able to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodation. A qualified person with a disability may request a modification or adjustment to the job or work environment in order meet the physical requirements of the position. The Salvation Army will attempt to satisfy requests as long as the accommodation needed is reasonable and no undue hardship would result.

    HOUSING:

    The Salvation Army requires that certain full-time staff members of Summer Camp Gifford reside in on-site housing for the convenience of The Salvation Army as employer. The decision to provide on-site housing is at the sole discretion of The Salvation Army as it determines its needs. A staff member's employment is separate and distinct from the terms of housing which The Salvation Army may provide. A "Housing Agreement" will be signed by the Camp Gifford Business Director that will establish and give guidance to this relationship. Refer to the Housing Agreement for specific information. Housing is only provided while working in an official capacity at Summer Camp during the months of June, July and August. No housing is provided Sept-May.

    COVID-19:

    "The Salvation Army will comply with all governmental orders and any contractual obligations relative to COVID-19 safety measures, including mandatory vaccination of staff, if required. The Salvation Army will consider requests for exemptions from any such requirements on either religious or medical grounds."

    Once a conditional offer has been made and then accepted by the applicant, The Salvation Army may then ask specific questions about vaccination status, if applicable. If the applicant requests an exemption, then processes described in this summary should be followed.

    BENEFITS:

    A generous benefits package is included with full-time positions: paid holidays, vacation time, sick time, and medical, vision, and dental insurance.

    Health Insurance: Low bi-weekly premiums for employee-only coverage, Kaiser HMO for those residing in a Kaiser service area, Anthem EPO/PPO is available for those residing outside a Kaiser service area. Voluntary 1 and family coverage at additional cost. Delta Dental DHMO and DPPO dental insurance are offered.

    Life and Voluntary Options. An employer-paid life insurance policy covers employees. Voluntary supplemental life, short-term and long-term disability plans are available.

    Retirement Plans: Employer-funded Money Purchase Pension Plan (Defined Contribution Plan) 50% vested at five years eligible service time. Plus, an employee-funded voluntary 403(b) option.

    Parental Leave: The benefit is 40 hours of Paid Leave for qualifying events.

    Sick Leave: 12 days of Sick Leave annually accruing from day one, eligible for use after three months' service time.

    Paid Vacation:

    • Two weeks annually, accruing from day one, for non-exempt positions
    • Four weeks annually, accruing from day one, for exempt positions
    • Accrued vacation is eligible for use after six months' service time

    Paid Holidays: 13 designated holidays 1 floating holiday per year
