Animal Technician provides daily care for research animals of various species. Cleans and disinfects cages and equipment. Being an Animal Technician monitors the health and well being of the animals, maintains logs of animal diet, behavior, vital signs and other data. Follows standard operating procedures and all biosafety and animal welfare regulations. Additionally, Animal Technician may perform procedures to collect samples. May transport animals to and from laboratories. Requires a high school diploma. May require Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) certification from the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) or other certification. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Animal Technician works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. Position Description – Swine Services Unlimited Inc. is a progressive swine research company looking to hire a motivated and hardworking individual to help take care of pigs and facilities. Duties would include making sure animals have feed, water, their environment is adequate, relevant paperwork is done, all equipment is functioning, cleaning animal rooms, and working with the owners and other employees to get other tasks completed.
Skills – Previous animal experience, basic mechanical skills, able to lift 50 pounds, self-motivated and the ability to work independently as well as with others. Must be able to work every third weekend and have flexible work schedule.
Compensation – Hourly pay starting at $18 per hour, health insurance, profit sharing, retirement plan after 1 year, production bonuses, company vehicle to get to and from the research sites.
