Anesthesia Technician assists Anesthesiologist by setting-up equipment and preparing medications. Orders, stocks, tests, and maintains anesthesia supplies, medications, and equipment. Being an Anesthesia Technician washes and sterilizes re-usable equipment and reports malfunctioning equipment to appropriate personnel. Performs safety checks on anesthesia equipment and assists the Anesthesiologist as needed. Additionally, Anesthesia Technician may also be required to complete Anesthesia Technician trainee program. May require an associate degree or equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Anesthesia Technician works under moderate supervision. SUMMARY
The Anesthesia Technician is a member of the Anesthesia care team.
In this role, they contribute to safe efficient and cost-effective anesthesia care. The Anesthesia Technologist provides technical and clinical support in anesthesia for routine and complex surgical cases. These types of cases include all General anesthetic cases as well as cardiac procedures.
The Anesthesia Technician provides technical and clinical support by preparing and maintaining patient monitoring devices and anesthesia delivery systems before, during and after anesthesia. They also assist the licensed anesthesia provider with the insertion of intravenous and other invasive lines, and airway management. They assist the anesthesia team by preparing central lines, Swan Ganz catheters, etc. while maintaining sterile technique. Prepares I.V. fluids, invasive line pressure transducers for use during the anesthetizing procedure. Sets up, calibrates, prepares and maintains anesthesia equipment used during the anesthetizing procedure.
