Anesthesia Technician assists Anesthesiologist by setting-up equipment and preparing medications. Orders, stocks, tests, and maintains anesthesia supplies, medications, and equipment. Being an Anesthesia Technician washes and sterilizes re-usable equipment and reports malfunctioning equipment to appropriate personnel. Performs safety checks on anesthesia equipment and assists the Anesthesiologist as needed. Additionally, Anesthesia Technician may also be required to complete Anesthesia Technician trainee program. May require an associate degree or equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Anesthesia Technician works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline. To be an Anesthesia Technician typically requires 1-3 years of related experience. (Copyright 2024 Salary.com)

Job Summary: The Anesthesia Technician provides technical support in the operating room, including anesthesia equipment setup and maintenance, assistance with patient preparation, and assistance with anesthesia administration. The Anesthesia Technician works closely with anesthesiologists, Surgeons, and other medical personnel to ensure the safe and effective delivery of anesthesia services Anesthesia technician are part of the surgical team and work under the supervision of the director of Anesthesia , or CRNAs, as well as the ASC Director.
Adhere to the TCC Ch’eghwtsen’ model of service and guiding principle which requires providing timely and effective service along with the ability to interact with others in a way that inspires trust and demonstrates respect, compassion and empathy.
Essential Functions
Essential Functions: This list is ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY and is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and tasks performed by incumbent(s).
Representative Duties: Under the general supervision of the Director of Anesthesia incumbent will:
1. Set up, operate, and maintain anesthesia equipment according to hospital standards and regulations.
2. Prepare and check anesthesia equipment prior to use.
3. Assist in the preparation of patient for surgery, including monitoring vital signs and preparing the operating room.
4. Assist with the administration of anesthesia according to the instructions of the Anesthesiologist.
5. Assist with the maintenance of anesthesia equipment, including cleaning and sterilization.
6. Will comply /adhere to all applicable policies and procedures.
7. Must protect the privacy of all patients' information as required by federal and state laws, including HIP AA·HITEC.
Other Responsibilities:
1. Performs other job related duties as assigned by Director.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
1. High school education or GED
2. One year of hospital experience preferred
3. Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy
4. Demonstrated knowledge of sterile processing and experience working in decontamination
5. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
6. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
7. Current Basic Life Support certificate required
8. Must pass background check pursuant to federal Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act requirements and State of Alaska background check.
9. Ability to lift and move heavy medical equipment
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
1. Ability to interact comfortably with patients, and staff in a stressful environment.
2. Demonstrated knowledge of operation and maintenance of equipment and supplies located in the operating room.
3. Ability to set priorities, identify, and resolve problems effectively and efficiently.
4. Skill in building trust and develop consensus within the surgical team.
5. Skill in follow-through and organization.
6. Professional communication with all staff, physicians and patients.
Supervision: This position is not supervisory position.
Supervision
Physical demands: Extended hours may be required. Work is in the medical clinic and Ambulatory Surgery Center. May be subject to harsh environmental conditions Surgical Technologists may face hazards from exposure to chemicals and infectious Diseases; they maybe exposed to anesthetic gases drugs and radiation. The use of disinfecting and sterilizing agents may cause damage to skin and respiratory system. Conditions include but are not limited to the following: Position requires recurring bending, stooping, kneeling, stretching, and reaching. Also standing for extended periods.
Summation
Summation: Position requires strong communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with the surgical team. Position requires knowledge of procedures, including the ability to anticipate supply and instrument requirements.
