THE ROLE
As a member of the Providence St. Joseph Health Clinical Informatics Nursing senior leadership team, the Executive Director, CNIO Ambulatory is responsible, with their Medical Informatics partners, for collaborative development, implementation, support, and on-going optimization of clinical informatics, Caring Reliably framework, IS strategy and other organizational commitments. As a partner for clinical transformation and in collaboration with the Regional and System Chief Nursing Officers, ministry Nurse Executives and other clinical and physician leaders, the Executive Director, CNIO Ambulatory leads informatics initiatives with an emphasis on information technology and services to support nursing and interdisciplinary care partners in the areas of practice, clinical applications, clinical/administrative decision-making, research and quality improvement initiatives, education, and resource management. The incumbent combines expert knowledge of patient care, informatics concepts, and change management to effectively represent the information and knowledge needs and requirements of healthcare professionals and patients and to promote safe, effective, and efficient use of information technology in clinical settings. Scope may include acute care, ambulatory care, and post-acute care settings.
The incumbent performs all duties in a manner that promotes a multidisciplinary team concept.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Strategy Development and Alignment; Collaboration:
Participates in development of Providence St. Joseph Health clinical systems strategy in collaboration with other senior nursing/clinical and medical informatics and operational leaders.
Collaborates with GVPs and VPs within Clinical Informatics, Providence St. Joseph Health Nursing Executives and other informatics leaders in developing a PSJH vision for nursing informatics and facilitates that vision at the regional and system level.
Maintains relationships with key business partners and other senior industry leaders in order to leverage best practices, evaluate emerging technologies, and distribute knowledge internally to inform plans and strategies.
Works with vendors to proactively strategize on development and/or enhancement of clinical information system solutions to meet PSJH business needs.
Works with IS Strategy and Business Development in researching and evaluating the effectiveness of technologies that impact clinical users.
Management and Leadership:
Acts as a change agent working with nursing and clinical leadership teams in the identification, development, planning, implementation, and value measurement of overall informatics strategies to support quality patient care and professional practice.
Serves as an expert nursing informatics consultant at the ministry, regional and PSJH system levels.
Incorporates nursing research and evidence-based nursing knowledge into nursing informatics practice.
Operations:
Attracts, hires, trains, motivates, retains, and develops a team of first-rate professionals to perform the responsibilities of nursing/clinical informaticists.
Provides mentorship in nursing informatics for service area/ministry-based informaticists new in their role.
Oversees budgeting and expenditures for all regional Nursing/Clinical Informatics service area/ministry-based services, as well as cost-allocation methodologies to operational areas.
Communicates and operationalizes the PSJH clinical systems strategy in collaboration with the Executive Director, Medical Informatics.
Provides regional nursing/clinical informatics leadership and program management for the collaborative development, implementation, support and on-going optimization of PSJH clinical information systems.
Maintains current knowledge of major clinical information systems and electronic health record applications.
Manages interdisciplinary teams to develop clinical data/documentation and workflow standardization to be used enterprise wide.
Facilitates the model for managing nursing/clinical requests for changes to clinical information systems; with Executive Director, Medical Informatics, coordinates regional and system clinical systems governance activities.
Teams with the Business Continuity team for downtime and disaster recovery projects, policies and procedures and participates in disaster drills for clinical applications.
Standards of Performance: Actively supports and incorporates the mission and core values of PSJH in daily activities and interactions with all others. Maintains confidentiality of all information related to patients, medical staff, employees, and as appropriate, other information as required by Federal, State, and Company compliance policies. Ensures compliance in self and team with mandatory system training and education efforts. Consistently demonstrates and incorporates principles of safety and infection control into daily activities as outlined in system and department safety policies/procedures.
Customer Service: Develops and collaborates, using data, on individual and team objectives and capacities in the creation, definition, and advancement/support of new and existing standard operating procedures (SOP) and service level agreements (SLA) consistent with PSJH management, IS, and CI priorities with the goal of providing and maintaining excellent, realistic customer service. Measures and reports on individual and team objectives/SOPs/SLAs as required/requested by CI and IS leadership. Advocates for and supports a collaborative and just work environment that maintains and augments employee engagement and satisfaction with a career at PSJH.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
Master's Degree in Nursing or Clinical; or equivalent educ/experience (preferred)
Education/Experience Equivalencies - Master's Degree: Informatics, Business Administration, Health Care Administration, Public Administration or related healthcare field
Upon hire: Informatics certifications or credentialing (may be equivalent for up to 2 years of experience for this position at the hiring manger’s discretion) (preferred)
Upon hire: Epic Certification in one or more applications (preferred)
10 or more years of nursing experience in a healthcare organization with strong experience in informatics and leadership
10 or more years of experience in clinical or IT functional management in comparable organizations, including financial and supervisory accountability.
3 years of experience in all areas of program and project management including multiple project integration and process/workflow redesign (preferred)
3 years of demonstrated ability to create and successfully execute strategic plans for highly complex issues, specifically for the adoption of clinical technology (preferred)
