HOURS/SHIFT:
Shifts to be determined based on demand analysis and may change periodically.
JOB SUMMARY
Provide the transportation of patients/clients to and from hospitals, convalescent facilities, dialysis centers, rehabilitation centers, medical offices, and their private residences in a safe, secure, and professional manner.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
1. Transporting patients and clients utilizing company vehicles in a safe and professional manner.
2. Effective communication with dispatch regarding schedule progress and to receive instructions.
3. Maintain a professional image and attitude regarding clients, visitors, and co ‐ workers.
4. Complete daily vehicle pre‐trip and post-trip inspections and maintain vehicle cleanliness to the company’s satisfaction.
5. Assist EMT with clients and patients as needed to safely complete the transfer.
6. Accurately complete activity logs, vehicle reports and sign off on EMS run sheets as a driver.
7. Responsible to understand and operate GPS devices, 2-way radios, and cell phones.
8. Safely operate both conventional and box ambulances in a safe manner on the road, at nursing facilities and hospitals, understanding the height of the vehicle and clearance.
9. Performs start of shift vehicle and equipment check, ensuring the vehicle and equipment is clean and ready for use. Driver is responsible for all aspects of the ambulance, while the EMT will be responsible for the medical equipment and medications appropriate for their truck.
10. Adhere to and follow all policies and company and industry standards and procedures concerning safety, (i.e. - bloodborne pathogens, respiratory protection, eye and face protection, etc.).
11. Sign off on all run sheets generated while on your shift with the EMT assigned. Run sheets MUST be completed prior to leaving the shift unless specific approval by the Operations Supervisor or Dispatch has been received.
12. Respond to all transports with optimal response times, work expediently to assure availability of vehicle, and perform in such a manner as to maximize vehicle utilization and productivity in coordination with EMT shift partner.
13. Obey all traffic laws and Valor Policies in operation of a company vehicle.
14. Must be able to communicate clearly with patients, family, or other professionals.
15. Maintain confidentiality of all patient, staff, and Valor Ambulance matters, following all HIPAA regulations
16. Maintain work area (vehicle and station) in a clean and safe condition.
17. Report any day-to-day incidents, equipment malfunctions, or supply shortages in writing to the duty supervisor prior to the end of your shift.
18. Carry out other duties as assigned.
SCOPE OF OPERATION:
This position will act solely as an ambulance driver and will take medical direction from the EMT, Advanced EMT, or Paramedics they are assigned to in regards to patient transfers, patient loading and unloading and gathering of medical supplies. This position is solely non-emergent transport and does not authorize the driver to run lights and sirens at any time.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Requires high school diploma or equivalent.
2. Must possess a valid state driver’s license and be eligible for driving privileges based on current Valor policies and procedures.
3. Must have CPR certification.
4. Must complete and maintain EVOC (Emergency Vehicle Operators Course) training.
5. Must be able to read maps and navigate around service area (GPS).
6. Must have previous customer service experience with a good track record of assisting customers in a thoughtful, caring and timely manner.
7. Must have a great work history with a track record of being a reliable, responsible individual.
8. Must be able to read, comprehend and follow written and verbal instructions.
9. Must read and understand English.
10. Good interpersonal and communication skills.
11. Ability to assess situation needs and problem solve.
