Being an Airport Engineer requires a bachelor's degree in engineering and 2-4 years of experience in the field or in a related area. Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Additionally, Airport Engineer relies on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.     Job Summary

    The ACAA’s Airline Services Technician – Engineer will report to the Manager, Airline Services and assumes responsibility for preventive maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of the conveyor systems and its ancillary equipment. Perform unscheduled repairs and major overhauls to the baggage system. This job requires the Engineer to work as a member of a composite crew in conjunction with Electricians and Mechanics.

     Here is how the Airline Services Technician – Engineer will help:   

    • Work safely and abide by all ACAA safety guidelines.
    • Develop or participate in the job safety analysis procedures.
    • Perform conveyor preventive maintenance in accordance with the OEM's recommendations or ACAA preventive maintenance program.
    • Perform unscheduled repairs to conveyor systems, including but not limited to repair and replacement of: conveyor belting, conveyor belt lacing, head and tail pulleys, carrying rollers, snub rollers, return rollers, conveyor structure, all associated shafts and bearings, baggage pusher assemblies, baggage diverters including horizontal and vertical units, power turn assemblies both chain-driven and belt-driven, tip chutes, fixed chutes, makeup and claim units including flat plate units as well as pallet support devices.
    • Occasionally will be required to make major and minor structural repairs due to damage caused to equipment.
    • Perform light fabrication of components.
    • Perform overhaul of components including but not limited to: gear boxes, cycloidal, helical and worm –driven models, belt assemblies, cog-type, power turn type and merge type.
    • Air filter replacements on passenger boarding bridges.
    • May be required to participate in the job safety analysis program administered by the Authority.
    • Perform other related tasks as assigned or required.

     

    Qualifications

    Preferred requirements to apply for role of Airline Services Technician – Engineer are:

    • High School diploma or GED.
    • Five years’ experience in Industrial Maintenance
    • Completion of a recognized apprenticeship in the craft or equivalent training at an accredited trade or technical school, or military training.
    • Current, valid Pennsylvania Class C driver’s license or ability to obtain the same; and
    • Must provide his/her own personal hand tools.

     

    We also expect that candidates will demonstrate the following knowledge, skills, and abilities in most cases:  

    • Considerable knowledge in the practices, methods, tools and materials of the Stationary Engineer trade with a concentration on conveyor maintenance.
    • Knowledge in occupational hazards and techniques of safety precautions and injury prevention programs.
    • Knowledge in standard practices of welding, steel, aluminum and stainless steel, including ARC, MIG, and TIG type welding.
    • Proficient at using acetylene torches for burning purposes.
    • Proficient use of "Clipper-type" belt lacers.
    • Basic understanding of three phase power including voltages of 480 VAC along with single phase 110 VAC.
    • Proficient understanding of ladder logic circuitry for troubleshooting.
    • Ability to replace and set up variable frequency drives.
    • Ability to take direction from ACAA management personnel, and/or Foreman.
    • Ability to work well with others.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds with assistance.
