GENERAL SUMMARY
The Junior Systems Engineer role is responsible for the operation, monitoring and maintenance of systems hardware and software on large local area networks. This position will have an emphasis on backend systems and related infrastructure support working with IT Department staff, contractors, and other partners. Daily operational activities would include supporting network, server, and telecom hardware while being mentored by senior IT infrastructure staff.
Additionally, the Junior Systems Engineer will provide logistical support for IT systems operations and aid in the implementation of projects related to IT infrastructure needs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Operational Management
- Strong troubleshooting skillset

- Create, change, and delete user and service accounts within active directory environment.
- Provision users in Microsoft Office 365.
- Perform daily backup monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of existing backups and regular restoral testing.
- Maintain and administer all backup and restore operations within the established recovery point objects and recovery time objectives.
- Assist in performing regular testing of data restore procedures and data integrity.
- Assist in repair and recover from hardware or software failures.
- Assist with network LAN/WAN and Wi-Fi deployments and hardware replacements.
- Provide Tier 2 support for IT infrastructure related service tickets.
- Assist with upgrades that support infrastructure applications as needed.
- Pull, terminate and/or label UTP CAT-5E, CAT-6 and fibers patch cables.
- Test wired and wireless network connectivity using physical and software tools.
- Maintain and monitor data center environmental and monitoring equipment.
- Maintain confidentiality of all IT systems design and operations unique to the IAA environment.
- Provisioning of infrastructure hardware such as phones, servers, VMs, etc.
- Other duties as assigned.
Planning, Deployment, and Project Participation
- Assist with any improvement, modification, or replacement of systems infrastructure components and related applications.
- Assist senior members of the IT infrastructure team with a range of operational and project needs as needed.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education
- Prefer university degree in the field of computer science or related field or equivalent experience (see below)
Desired Certifications
- Microsoft 365 Certified: Fundamentals
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Fundamentals
- Microsoft 365 Certified: Endpoint Administrator Associate
- Foundational level cloud provider
- Storage , Security , Linux
Knowledge & Experience
One (1) to Three (3) years of experience with
- Experience managing users in a Microsoft 365 tenant
- Experience with Windows Server and domain roles
- Managing users and computers within Active Directory
- Computer network troubleshooting (IPv4 and 6 networks, ping, tracert, etc.)
- Experience with web servers such as IIS, Apache, etc.
- Familiarity with IT Business Continuity and Disaster Recover
- Managing and maintaining backup environments
- Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to sit for extended periods of time.

- Lifting and transporting of moderately heavy objects, such as switches and computers.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- 40 -hour on-site work week plus on-call rotation.
