Aircraft Maintenance Supervisor supervises the maintenance operations of aircraft airframes and engines to ensure safe and reliable performance. Oversees routine servicing and preventative maintenance to optimize the lifetime of aircraft airframe and engine components according to internal procedures, guidelines, and technical handbooks. Being an Aircraft Maintenance Supervisor evaluates technical requirements to determine the tradeoffs between the repair versus the replacement of components and the effect on cost and safety. Implements policies and procedures to ensure compliance with all federal aviation regulations, standards, and specifications. Additionally, Aircraft Maintenance Supervisor informs and trains aircraft mechanics on current information from manufacturers and regulatory bodies. Coordinates and schedules inspections and follow-up tasks to ensure timely completion. Requires a high school diploma. Requires FAA Airframe (A) and Powerplant (P) Mechanic License. Typically reports to a manager. The Aircraft Maintenance Supervisor supervises a small group of para-professional staff in an organization characterized by highly transactional or repetitive processes. Contributes to the development of processes and procedures. To be an Aircraft Maintenance Supervisor typically requires 3 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. The Maintenance Supervisors handle many different areas of repair, such as plumbing, electricity, ventilation, air conditioning, and other building systems.
The Maintenance Supervisor is also responsible for evaluating
problematic systems and determining what repairs need to be performed. Maintenance Supervisors are also involved with the hiring of workers, and assigning duties and responsibilities;
the maintenance supervisor may
provide training on equipment and procedures used in a building or complex. Maintenance supervisors are also responsible for coordinating with building or complex management on supplies needed for the job, as well as maintenance inventory.
Supervisors may also be responsible for the evaluations and accident investigations, as well as filing reports.
