Aircraft Electrician performs preventative and non-routine maintenance and inspections of aircraft avionics and electrical systems. Uses manufacturer's reference documents, diagrams, and best practices to troubleshoot problems, identify the correct solutions and replace or repair components and parts. Being an Aircraft Electrician conducts quality testing, verification procedures, and required documentation of all completed work. Ensures compliance with all FAA maintenance regulations and requirements. Additionally, Aircraft Electrician typically requires an associate degree in aviation electronics, avionics or equivalent. Requires Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) License. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Aircraft Electrician works independently within established procedures associated with the specific job function. Has gained proficiency in multiple competencies relevant to the job.     Background:

    The Maintenance Electrician shall be responsible for performing a variety of electrical trade functions, such as the installation, maintenance, or repair of equipment for the generation, distribution, or utilization of electric energy.


    Responsibilities:

    • Install or repair any of a variety of electrical equipment such as generators, transformers, switchboards, controllers, circuit breakers, motors, heating units, conduit systems, or other transmission equipment, including overhead door operators, equipment controls, and low voltage controls.
    • Must know working standard computations relating to load requirements of wiring or electrical equipment.
    • Test electrical currents or components for continuity using electrical test equipment.
    • Must have knowledge and understanding of the current National Electrical Code (NEC).
    • Must be able to work from drawings, layouts, blueprints, or other specifications, locating and diagnosing trouble in the electrical system or equipment.
    • Inspect and test systems to verify system compliance with plans and specifications or to detect and locate malfunctions.
    • Must comply with all applicable standards, policies, and procedures, including safety procedures and the maintenance of a clean work area.
    • Perform other facility maintenance and repair duties as needed.
    • Assist in other areas after primary job duties are completed to facilitate cross-training.

    Requirements and Qualifications:

    Security Requirement:

    • It is mandatory that all Contractor personnel working onsite at federal facilities meet federal government security clearance standards.
    • Candidates must pass a physical exam along with a thorough background investigation.



    Education/Experience Requirement:

    REQUIRED:

    • Journeyman commercial/industrial license issued by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
    • Must have at least four (4) years of experience at the journeyman level experience obtained within the past seven (7) years in the field of inspection, testing, troubleshooting, repairing, operating, and performing preventive maintenance on complex electrical power distribution systems.
    • Must be accredited by the National Electrical Testing Association (NETA)
    • High school diploma or equivalent General Educational Development (GED) Certificate.
    • Must have knowledge of acceptable maintenance procedures and an understanding of occupational safety and health regulations.
    • Must be a steady, reliable worker.
    • Must be able to read simple instructions and follow simple diagrams.
    • Must have and maintain a State Certified Electrician License.
    • Able to work independently.
    • Must be able to determine the kind of tools and equipment needed to complete each task assignment.
    • Must be able to lift/carry up to 50 lbs. frequently.
    • Must be willing/able to work outside in hot or cold conditions.
    • A valid driver's license is required.
    • Ability to perform each bullet point task in the position summary.
    • Communicate effectively in a positive, professional manner with coworkers, clients, and visitors.

    PREFERRED:

    • Military experience or experience working in federal facilities.

    Work Environment: This job typically works in a building and in outdoor areas and uses mechanical equipment as needed to perform duties with associated noise levels. Weather conditions may vary. The employee may encounter frequent interruptions throughout the workday.

    Support Hours: Applicant shall be available during core work hours, 0730 to 1600, with additional hours as needed, Mon-Fri, or as established by the RA. The facility is closed during local or national emergencies, administrative closings, or similar Government directed facility closings.

    Place of Performance: The primary work location will be Norfolk, VA within Government facilities.

    Travel: No travel is anticipated within CONUS and OCONUS locations in support of this contract.
