Aircraft Electrician performs preventative and non-routine maintenance and inspections of aircraft avionics and electrical systems. Uses manufacturer's reference documents, diagrams, and best practices to troubleshoot problems, identify the correct solutions and replace or repair components and parts. Being an Aircraft Electrician conducts quality testing, verification procedures, and required documentation of all completed work. Ensures compliance with all FAA maintenance regulations and requirements. Additionally, Aircraft Electrician typically requires an associate degree in aviation electronics, avionics or equivalent. Requires Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) License. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager.     SUMMARY:


    Performs a wide variety of electrical installations and maintenance work on oil and gas electrical systems, equipment and apparatus to furnish an uninterrupted flow of power and lighting; plans, lays out, and installs complex wiring circuits and distribution centers.


    ESSENTIAL DUTIES:


    • Plans layout and installs a wide variety of electrical systems and industrial equipment used in the oil and gas industry. Examples include, but are not limited to: AC and DC solid state circuitry, alternators, electro-mechanical components, generators, hydraulic and pneumatic electrical control systems, industrial storage batteries, motors, Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), relays, starters, and transformers.
    • Installs, examines, replaces or repairs electrical wiring, receptacles, switch boxes, conduits, feeders, fiber-optic and coaxial cable assemblies, lighting fixtures and other electrical components.
    • Fabricates, installs and runs 3-Phase work, motor terminations, and electrical panels; and sizes and installs electrical circuits, including panels, wire size and type, protective devices, switches, and related equipment needed to comply with the NEC.
    • Follows electrical drawings and uses test instruments such as a voltmeters, ammeters, oscilloscope and power control switches. Interprets and works from electrical drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, code specifications to determine layout of industrial electrical equipment installations.
    • Troubleshoots and repairs electrical systems, industrial equipment, control systems and other related devices; repairs electrical failures and replaces part; corrects wiring and connections on machinery controls; and performs control and instrument troubleshooting.
    • Performs preventive maintenance inspections and testing of various electrical systems (including power distribution equipment). Keeps maintenance records.
    • Tests electrical and electronic equipment and components for continuity, current, voltage and resistance.
    • Maintains, repairs, installs and tests switchgear, transformers, switchboard meters, regulators and reactors.
    • Installs, maintains and calibrates industrial instrumentation and related devices.
    • Performs other duties as determined and required based on project need.


    Requirements

    EDUCATION:

    Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent.

    Electrical trade training preferred.


    EXPERIENCE:

    Must have at least two - five (2-5) years electrician experience within an oil and gas production plant/facility.

    SKILLS:

    Must have the following skills and/or abilities:

    • In depth knowledge of oil and gas industry.
    • Proficiency with the National Electrical Code (NEC).
    • Proficiency with reading electrical drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, code specifications.
    • In depth knowledge of the standard methods, materials, tools and equipment used in electrical installation, testing, repair and maintenance in the oil and gas production industry. 
    • Working knowledge of oil and gas processing equipment to include AC and DC motors and drives.
    • Strong mechanical skills.
    • Strong planning, organizational, delegation, and time management skills in order to set priorities and meet assigned deadlines.  
    • Strong problem-solving skills to develop feasible realistic solutions to problems, recommending actions designed to prevent problems from occurring, and resolving escalated issues when necessary.
    • Strong knowledge of and adherence to company and OSHA safety guidelines applicable to the work to include maintaining up-to-date safety knowledge.
    • In depth knowledge of lockout / tagout procedures. 


    LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS: 

    Must have a current Texas driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record.

    Texas Journeyman electrical license preferred. 


    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    Must be able to perform the following physical activity on a frequent to constant basis:

    • Stand for long periods of time.
    • Lift 40–60 lbs. with or without assistance. 
    • Constantly uses fingers and hands.
    • Ability to hear average or normal conversations and receive ordinary information through verbal communications in person or detect objects in and around job site.
    • Average, ordinary visual acuity necessary to prepare or inspect documents; operate various types of machinery and handheld equipment.
    • Walk short distances on slippery, even, and/or uneven surfaces.
    • Stand, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, twist, turn, or crawl.
    • Climb and balance on stairs, metal/wooden beams, ladders, or other structures/elevated areas.
    • Able to distinguish colors.


    WORKING CONDITIONS:

    • Work primarily at job site performing work in outdoor weather conditions with exposure to extreme cold, heat, and noise depending upon project site; and may also include the following:

    ? dust, fumes, cleaning chemicals, and/or other harsh/hazardous solvents or disinfectants   

    ? electrical components, power lines, or other electrical hazards

    ? rebar, blades, or other sharp objects/tools 

    ? high elevations, trenches, or crawl spaces

    • Possible travel locally during the work day between jobsites, although some out-of-area travel may be expected with seldom overnight travel.

    • Communicate and comprehend instructions/directions in accordance with safety requirements, which necessitate no language barriers exist between employees and supervisors.
    • Wear personal protective equipment as required such as steel toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, hard hat, vest, and the like while conducting job site visits.
    • Maintain regular, timely, and predictable attendance
