Aircraft Electrician performs preventative and non-routine maintenance and inspections of aircraft avionics and electrical systems. Uses manufacturer's reference documents, diagrams, and best practices to troubleshoot problems, identify the correct solutions and replace or repair components and parts. Being an Aircraft Electrician conducts quality testing, verification procedures, and required documentation of all completed work. Ensures compliance with all FAA maintenance regulations and requirements. Additionally, Aircraft Electrician typically requires an associate degree in aviation electronics, avionics or equivalent. Requires Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) License. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Aircraft Electrician works independently within established procedures associated with the specific job function. Has gained proficiency in multiple competencies relevant to the job.     The statements below reflect the items considered necessary to describe the essential functions of the job identified and shall not be construed as a detailed description of all work requirements that may be inherent in the job.     Essential Functions:

    • Safely plan, layout, install, and repair wiring, electrical fixtures, apparatus and control equipment per NEC and customer specifications
    • Plan and install new or modified installations to minimize waste of materials, provide access for future maintenance, and avoid unsightly, hazardous and unreliable wiring, consistent with specifications and codes with minimal to no oversight
    •      Work as part of a D&D Crew preforming electrical checks as needed to ensure the safety of yourself and others around you
    •      Must be able to preform other D&D related activities when electrical work is not required, such as downsizing and packaging waste
    •      Test continuity of circuits to ensure electrical compatibility and safety of components, using test instruments, such as ohmmeter, megger and oscilloscope.
    •      Perform other duties as necessary

    General Educational Development Requirements

            Education: High School Diploma or Equivalency

    Additional Requirements

    •      Prefer 3-5 years experience as a Commercial or Industrial Electrician
    •      Must have the ability to distinguish color differentiation for the purpose of identifying wire colors and color-coded safety indicators.
    •      Must be knowledgeable concerning types and uses of materials, parts, and assemblies used in electrical construction throughout the plant.
    •      Must be knowledgeable concerning use of all types of labor involved in electrical construction.
    • Must be knowledgeable concerning use of all tools, machines and other equipment involved in electrical construction
    • Must be able to obtain a NRC Q and DOE U level clearance

    Understand and follow direction from the direct supervisor

    Physical Profile Requirements: 

    The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

    The job requires occasionally remaining on one's feet in an upright position without moving for long periods of time, occasionally moving about on foot for long periods of time, remaining in a seated position for long periods of time, and/or climbing stairs, stepladders, extension ladders and scaffolding ladders. The job also requires the ability to raise or lower an object of approximately 5-50 pounds from one level to another, the ability to transport an object of up to 50 pounds a distance of up to 10 yards, usually holding it in the hands or arms, or on the shoulder, the ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 20 pounds of force frequently and a negligible amount of force constantly so that an object moves away from the force, and/or the ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 20 pounds of force frequently and a negligible amount of force constantly so that an object moves toward the force.

    Must be capable of operating a standard 1/2-ton pick-up for occasional delivery and pick-up of materials and personnel and hold a valid, unrestricted motor vehicle operator's license issued by the state of residence, and the manual dexterity necessary to operate a standard desktop computer keyboard.
