Aircraft Electrician performs preventative and non-routine maintenance and inspections of aircraft avionics and electrical systems. Uses manufacturer's reference documents, diagrams, and best practices to troubleshoot problems, identify the correct solutions and replace or repair components and parts. Being an Aircraft Electrician conducts quality testing, verification procedures, and required documentation of all completed work. Ensures compliance with all FAA maintenance regulations and requirements. Additionally, Aircraft Electrician typically requires an associate degree in aviation electronics, avionics or equivalent. Requires Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) License. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Aircraft Electrician works independently within established procedures associated with the specific job function. Has gained proficiency in multiple competencies relevant to the job.     Reads blueprints and diagrams; determines materials needed, estimates time and material costs on installations and requests supplies to assure timely and adequate availability.
    Installs, tests, and repairs electrical fixtures and power distribution circuits and utility equipment, internal communication and alarm systems, and elements of heating and medical equipment.
    Diagnoses and corrects trouble on electrical installations or recommends emergency courses of action to keep vital electrical equipment operational.
    Suggests most appropriate sources of electrical power for new installations or renovation projects. Works on power lines, including 120 to 4150 volts and on high transformers, switch gears, cubicles, etc.
    Performs corrective maintenance in accordance with the work order system. Installs/repairs high-voltage electrical equipment including transformers, panels, feeders, motors, switches and the like in a thorough and timely manner.
    Installs/repairs low-voltage electrical equipment including transformers, panels, feeders, motors, switches and the like in a thorough and timely manner.
    Familiar with variable frequency drive motors.
    Checks incoming electrical devices for conformance with appropriate codes and tags/records inspection.
    Assists other personnel or agencies in completing safety inspections, installation, servicing and repair of any electrical equipment as required.
    Receives work orders and following floor layouts, sketches, on oral instruction, estimates material and time required to accomplish assigned tasks.
    Prepares purchase requisitions for material required for job through Engineering Manager.
    Helps plan, recommends and carries out an approved program for maintenance of electrical systems and equipment in the hospital. Must be able to test high-tension on main switch gear, replaces fuses, isolates one service or parallel the services and transfer. Must be able to transfer high-tension on main switch gear by paralleling before transfer.
    Familiar with National Electrical Code. Familiar with OSHA requirements / Lock-out Tag-out procedure.
    Ability to install and maintain emergency generating equipment. Operates all tools, meters and gauges of the trade.
