    JOB DESCRIPTION:

    Under general supervision, performs work at the City’s Agritourism Center, including care of livestock and poultry, planting and care of various plants, and interacting with visitors through tours and other farm-related activities.

    QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

    • High school diploma or GED and a minimum of one (1) year experience working with livestock and/or horticulture is highly desirable.
    • Position is required to maintain current First Aid and CPR certifications.
    • Must successfully complete required background screening.
    • Additional certifications may also be required.
    • Requires a valid Florida driver license.
    • Work involves continuous physical effort in walking, bending, stooping, lifting, and occasional crawling and difficult working positions. Requires the ability to regularly lift, carry, push, pull, etc. up to 45 pounds and to maneuver animals that may weigh up to 3000 pounds. Requires work outdoors for long periods of time under varying weather conditions and exposure to a variety of hazards, including but not limited to, non-domesticated animals, pesticides, odors, mud, dust, insects and various animal droppings. Requires ability to properly wear applicable personal protective equipment (PPE); and operate motor vehicles with frequent travel in and around the City.
    • This position is assigned the Emergency Personnel status of Emergency Essential for the purposes of work assigned before, during, and after a disaster related event.

    EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

    • Maintains animal feeding, pen cleaning, monitoring and care of compost and garden areas; light repair and maintenance work on pens, coops, garden hoops, etc.; training and guiding volunteers; and educating visitors through conversation and planned activities.
    • Monitors animals and plants for signs of pests and/or illness and assists with delivering appropriate gardening remedies, special animal feed, and oral supplements/medications as prescribed by a veterinarian. Interacts with visitors, sharing information and answering questions about current center efforts and practices.
    • Assists with planning and leading group activities for field trips and similar group visits. Works with volunteers and will help train and monitor their performance in assigned tasks.
    • Requires flexibility in hours and days of work due to the nature of farm responsibilities to include weekend rotations, early and/or evening shifts, on-call emergencies, and limited hours on City holidays.
    • Performs minor recordkeeping responsibilities to include recording when medications or special care given to animals, the time organic pesticides or herbicides are applied, maintaining planting or watering schedules, entering volunteer hours, etc.
    • May assist with supply purchases and cash handling. Assists with, or assumes responsibilities as needed in all other areas of the Agricultural Division and Leisure Services Department as assigned.
