Work Description:
- Develops inspection processes including determining the appropriate gage for specific applications, programming and operating inspection equipment/devices, developing first article inspection criteria, and creating Acceptable Quality Level (AQL) based sampling plans.
- Support creation of product inspection and sampling plans, perform inspections, analyze trends, and report findings.
- Receiving inspections:
- Inspect purchased materials against business and compliance requirements
- Review Material Test Reports (MTRs), Certificates of Conformance (COC), or Certificates of Analysis (CoA) for variances
- Receipt of materials from outside fabrication sources including out plant processes.
- Perform transactions to place accepted material into inventory locations.
- Physically move accepted parts from receiving inspection area to inventory stores locations.
- Enter receiving data into tracking system and/or route reports to QA and Purchasing
- Coordinate resolution for non-conformances up to and including supplier audits
- In-Process inspections (Pre-Unit Assembly or Pre-Shipment Unit Assembly)
- Conduct planned and unplanned audits/inspections on assigned processes during manufacturing process and record findings
- Final inspections (Pre-shipment):
- Conduct fabrication, machine shop, and/or final assembled product inspections to confirm quality of outgoing finished goods (may include analysis of welds, finish, markings, components or configuration thereof, and packaging standards through use of visual inspection and/or analysis tools)
- Return inspections (Post-shipment):
- Assess and document condition of product returns from customers and ensure findings are communicated for commercial resolution
- Participate on Material Review Board (MRB), supplier audits, or plant improvement projects
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school degree or GED equivalent required
- 2 years as a professional inspector and/or equivalent experience.
- Ability to read Engineering drawings and technical documents.
- Ability to read signs and differentiate colors, perform visual inspections, and use dimensional and tolerance measurement tools (calipers, micrometers, plug and thread gages, ID/OD gages, Mil thickness testers, optical comparator, tape measure, etc.)
- Basic computer skills
- Effective communication and organizational skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Professional inspection related certifications (CMI, etc.)
- Experience programming and using analytical test or measurement equipment
- Experience with supplier audits
- Experience operating a reach truck, forklift, and/or electric pallet jack
- Exposure to best practices in Quality
- Exposure to Epicor ERP software
Physical Demands:
- Requires work near/with moving mechanical parts
- Requires work in a noisy, fast-paced environment where forklifts and other machinery may be used
