Position Overview
Under direction, drives the Madison County van to provide public transportation for community citizens. This position is strictly part-time with a maximum of 29 hours weekly. Must be willing to work fewer hours per week as needed. No benefits are offered to part-time employees.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
(All duties listed may not be included in any one position, nor does the list include all tasks found in a position of this class.)

Operates a passenger van safely and efficiently.

Follows specific regularly scheduled routes and/or responds to requests from dispatch or management for unscheduled pick-ups or drop-offs.

Assists passengers in boarding and exiting vehicles.

Loads and unloads packages and other items.

Transmits and receives over the two-way radio system.

Coordinates with dispatch in the scheduling of passengers for the van.

May assist in operations support duties such as handling phone calls and light clerical support as needed to complete scheduling and reporting requirements.

Monitors traffic and weather conditions and notifies dispatch of potential problems.

Reports accidents or other safety situations to dispatch.

Reports malfunctioning items or damage on a vehicle.

Inspects exterior and interior of the vehicle at beginning of each shift for properly operating headlights, turn signals, brake lights, air conditioning or heating, mirror adjustment; properly inflated tires, windshield wipers, vehicle damage, etc. prior to moving vehicle.

Responsible for ensuring inside and outside of the vehicle is properly cleaned and fueled on an ongoing basis.

Keeps interior of vehicle neat and orderly.

Completes driver sheet to document names and number of persons served.
Education, Experience, and Qualifications
Education and Experience

Must be a high school graduate or equivalent, with experience in the operation of a van or similar vehicle.
Knowledge, Skill, and Ability-
Knowledge of Madison County and surrounding areas.

Knowledge of requirements and standards related to the safe and efficient operation of commercial vehicles.

Skill in the operation of commercial passenger vans.

Knowledge of federal, state, and local traffic laws and regulations governing the operation of a commercial passenger vehicle.

Ability to perform routine maintenance on small commercial vehicles and to identify vehicle problems and malfunctions.

Knowledge of basic first-aid and/or CPR techniques.

Ability to coordinate passenger schedules.

Ability to interact effectively by telephone and in-person with a wide variety of people and to effectively use maps and follow directions.

Ability to maintain records.

Must have the ability to read, write and speak the English language.

Basic computer knowledge is helpful.
Other Requirements
Physical Requirements

Must be at least 21 years of age and have a valid driver's license.

Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. and the ability to push or pull a minimum of 200 pounds.

Must be able to see and hear well enough to effectively perform the job.

Must take and successfully complete a drug screen and physical.
Certifications or Licenses Required

Must have a valid driver's license and maintain a driving record that is acceptable to the Madison County insurance carrier.
DISCLAIMER: This position is funded by a grant and the Madison County Commission. Funding is appropriated annually. A decrease in future appropriations could affect the viability of this position.
