    ABOUT THIS POSITION
    The Adult Education Coordinator will facilitate the operations of the program department’s adult learning centers including programs, classes, volunteers, and partners.
     

     ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
    1. Facilitate the Adult Learning Center curriculum and volunteers.
    2. Assess and test adult students’ abilities in reading, reading comprehension, vocabulary, writing, math and memory.
    3. Teach classes (e.g. ESL, Reflective writing, Job Readiness, etc.) for program students and guests. Developing and adapting curriculum to individual needs as necessary.
    4.Provide encouragement and recognition to student accomplishment in the learning center, promotion ceremonies.
    5. Create individualized plan for guests pursuing a GED, ESL, and student needing additional education assistance for their case manager to incorporate into their individualized program plan.
     
    RELATED FUNCTIONS
    1. Staff special Open Door Mission events as requested
    2. Provide tours to donors and volunteers as requested
    3. Social interaction with guests/staff
     
    EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
     
    Required
    1. Bachelor’s Degree in education or human services. 
     
    Preferred
    1. One or more year(s) of teaching experience. 
    2. One or more year(s) of human services experience.
     
    COMPETENCY
     
    1. Demonstrated knowledge of Teaching, GED process and subject areas, ESL, Microsoft Word and Excel, Educational Resources, Educational Assessments, Record Keeping, and Motivation.
    2. Ability and desire to gain knowledge/experience of homelessness, crisis intervention, chemical dependency and recovery, mental illness, domestic violence, social issues, evangelism, management, scheduling, public relations, and counseling.
    3. Intermediate general computer operation.
     
    MINISTRY REQUIREMENTS
     
    1. A visible, growing, and committed relationship with Christ, based on knowledge of Scripture and life experience.
    2. Consistent attendance at and involvement with a local Christian church.
     
    POSITION TYPE/SCHEDULE
     
    Weekend work is not expected nor is overtime. This position requires occasional flexibility in scheduling availability for events.  
    Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:30am - 5:00.
     
    Pay Range: $17-$21 per hour
    Pay Frequency: Bi-Weekly
     
    WORK ENVIRONMENT
     
    This position primarily works indoors, but must be able to work outside in all weather conditions when needed.
    This position primarily works out of 2 buildings so you will need to be able to cross between buildings on campus as needed.
