Admitting Clerk performs routine registration, data collection, and administrative tasks to admit patients to a healthcare facility. Inputs patient demographic information into the designated system, collects and validates insurance or financial information. Being an Admitting Clerk reviews paperwork and obtains all necessary consents and signatures from patients or family. Explains the facility's policies and procedures and answers routine questions. Additionally, Admitting Clerk coordinates patient intake and bed assignment processes with clinical or administrative teams. Follows all established policies and standards to preserve patient confidentiality, ensure data security and comply with all applicable regulations. Requires a high school diploma. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Admitting Clerk works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. Possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job. Perform patient registrations, prepare death record, maintain logs and produce required reports.
Initiate notice of admissions when applicable. Complete information updates, assist nursing staff with computer transactions when needed.
Must have the ability to work collaboratively with physicians, Nursing, Directors, Managers, Vice Presidents, and Support Staff. Make and receive phone calls to physician’s offices, other institutions, house staff, insurance companies and patients.
Time management is crucial with the objective of expediting patient through put. Transactions throughout the institution will be reviewed for accuracy when applicable and corrected as required.
Must demonstrate the ability to work independently, with little or no supervision/direction, and as part of a team, in a fast paced high volume atmosphere.
Two years hospital admitting/business office experience (preferred).
High School Diploma or Equivalent.
