Addiction Mental Health Assessor conducts initial and ongoing assessments of patients in Alcohol and Drug (AoD) addiction programs to determine mental health needs and establish care requirements. Provides initial treatment and refers clients to appropriate agencies/providers as needed. Being an Addiction Mental Health Assessor works with patients and families to develop appropriate chemical dependency service plans. Complies with standards in the area of evaluation, assessment, treatment, and service delivery to clients. Additionally, Addiction Mental Health Assessor requires certification as a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC) or similar. Typically requires a bachelor's degree. May require a state license to practice. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. Addiction Mental Health Assessor's years of experience requirement may be unspecified. We are currently seeking an individual for a Part Time Peer Support Specialist position to join our Adult Services Team and make a positive impact on the lives of the individuals we serve. As a Part Time Peer Support Specialist at Newaygo County Mental Health, you will play a vital role in offering support, guidance, and encouragement to individuals living with mental health challenges. You will draw upon your own lived experience to inspire hope, promote recovery, and help clients achieve their personal goals.
Key Responsibilities:
Primary responsibilities include promoting and participating in activities that enhance client recovery such as community inclusion activities, advocacy, education opportunities, etc. Provide direct services that may include outreach and engagement, linkage to community supports, transportation, in-home services, and group facilitation. The Peer Support Specialists assist the team in identifying program environments that are conducive to recovery, lending their unique insight into mental illness or dual diagnosis and what makes recovery possible. Promotes client decision-making and participates in the person-centered planning process. Assists clients in obtaining services that suit their individual recovery needs. Teaches and role models the value of recovery and models effective coping techniques and self help strategies. Successful applicants must have knowledge and skills sufficient for establishing effective relationships with clients, their families, and team members.
Qualifications:
Applicants must be a current or former primary client of behavioral health services and have the ability and strong commitment to share personal life experiences and be committed to the principals of Person Centered Planning. Must have a high school diploma or equivalent, strong computer and typing skills, and possess a valid Michigan driver’s license. Certification as a Peer Support Specialist is preferred, or must be able to obtain certification within six months of employment.
