Actuarial Services Director directs the activities of an organization's actuarial function. Develops mathematical analyses and financial principles to solve insurance problems. Being an Actuarial Services Director calculates premiums, designs insurance plans, creates probability charts and may aid in the calculation of necessary funds to ensure future payments of benefits. Advises management in the determination of major rating assumptions. Additionally, Actuarial Services Director requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to top management. May require ASA or FSA designation. The Actuarial Services Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. The individual in this role will have the opportunity to provide leadership and training to actuarial analysts, rating specialists, and data scientists. In addition, this individual will establish pricing levels for all business lines; oversee predictive modeling efforts; and oversee / execute actuarial duties, which include reserving reinsurance, ratemaking, financial projections, and claim calculations to support business and strategic goals.
