Actuarial Fellow utilizes statistical analysis and modeling to assess and manage risk and estimate financial outcomes. Compiles, prepares, and analyzes data to develop statistical models, probability tables, and actuarial studies and evaluate the likelihood and financial impact of various risks. Being an Actuarial Fellow assists with product design and development by analyzing risk groups and calculating appropriate insurance rates, premium levels, and rating systems and structures. Records and tracks accruals, claims, and settlements and prepares documents for input into regulatory filings, financial budgets, forecasts, and other financial projections. Additionally, Actuarial Fellow applies knowledge of mathematics, probability, statistics, principles of finance and business to calculations in life, health, social, and casualty insurance, annuities, and pensions. Requires a bachelor's degree. Requires Fellow of Society of Actuaries (FSA). Typically reports to a manager. To be an Actuarial Fellow typically requires 12+ years of related experience. Achievement and depth of knowledge of specialization or field is the main differentiator. Advisory role on complex and challenging projects and initiatives. Post Doc Research Fellow

  • Description & Details: The NDSU English department invites applicants for a post-doctoral position in English (Rhetoric and Writing). The successful candidate will become a member of a department that offers undergraduate, masters, and doctoral degrees in a supportive, friendly, and inclusive atmosphere for faculty and students at all levels.

    Responsibilities: We seek candidates interested in teaching and researching first-year writing and advanced writing courses. The position is 60% teaching/mentoring and 40% research. The teaching load is 3 courses in the Fall 2023 and 2 courses in the Spring 2024, plus mentoring for graduate and undergraduate students. The successful candidate will have an opportunity to develop a graduate-level course (ENGL 758 – Topics in Rhetoric, Writing, and Culture) based on their area of expertise. The successful candidate will make progress on their scholarly research agenda through presentations and/or publications.

    The position begins August 16, 2023.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Earned doctorate by time of hire in English, Rhetoric, and/or Composition, or closely related field
    • Postsecondary teaching experience in Rhetoric and Writing Studies (e.g., first-year writing courses, writing center work, or other relevant teaching or administrative experiences in a college writing program)
    • Evidence of an active scholarly agenda in rhetoric, writing studies, and/or writing pedagogies
    • Evidence of demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion
    • Evidence of effective written and oral communication skills

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Relevant college or university teaching experience after earning degree
    • Developed record of scholarly activities including publications and conference presentations
    • Evidence of preparation to mentor doctoral students in English, Rhetoric, and/or Composition in a range of methodologies and approaches
    • Evidence of preparation to mentor undergraduate students
    • Graduate coursework in any of the following areas of writing studies: Research methods (qualitative, quantitative, mixed), writing program administration, cultural rhetorics, digital rhetoric, history of rhetoric, rhetorical theory, writing assessment, writing center studies, technical and professional writing, and/or grant writing
    • Technological proficiency, including familiarity with online/hybrid/remote teaching practices

    Preferred Teaching Competencies:

    The successful candidate will teach the following courses regularly offered in the English department as part of our bachelors degrees in English; masters in English, and Ph.D. in Rhetoric, Writing, and Culture.

    ENGL 120: College Composition II

    ENGL 458: Advanced Writing Workshop

    ENGL 758: Topics in Writing, Rhetoric, and Culture

    The successful candidate may teach the following:

    ENGL 275: Introduction to Writing Studies

    ENGL 459/659: Researching and Writing Grants and Proposals
