Actuarial Fellow is responsible for applying mathematical analyses and financial principles to amend insurance problems. Applies probability and statistics to determine rates for retirement, accident, mortality, disability and other insurance rates. Being an Actuarial Fellow determines premiums, designs insurance plans, creates probability charts and may aid in the calculation of necessary funds to ensure future payments of benefits. Typically works in either property and casualty, life and health insurance, or defined benefit plans. Additionally, Actuarial Fellow typically requires a bachelor's degree in statistics, mathematics, economics, or related. Typically reports to a manager. Post Doctoral Research Fellow (Pasche)

  • Position description: The Department of Plant Pathology at North Dakota State University in Fargo, ND has an immediate opening for two exceptional post-doctoral researchers to conduct research in a stakeholder-driven project conducting research on economically important diseases impacting the potato industry. The successful candidate will i) bring research experience, enthusiasm, and excellent communication skills to a well-established team ii) utilize contemporary and traditional research and statistical tools to improve the understanding and management of soil-borne pathogens; iii) lead statistical analyses for research developed by the individual and the group; iv) publish research and present results; v) support the PI in development of new and existing projects towards the goal of advancing research and disseminating results through reports, presentations and refereed journal publications. The incumbent is expected to work independently and in multidisciplinary research groups, and to supervise, train and guide graduate students, and laboratory staff. A successful candidate must demonstrate expertise in statistics as well as classical and modern areas of plant pathology. This is a full-time post-doctoral appointment renewable annually, contingent upon satisfactory performance and available funding. The candidate selected for the position must meet eligibility requirements for work in the United States at the time of appointment.

    Minimum qualifications: The position requires a recent PhD in plant pathology; demonstrated advanced skills in experimental design, statistical analysis, and visualization of results using contemporary statistical packages; demonstrated expertise in modern and classical laboratory techniques in plant pathology; success in publishing research results. Additional requirements include; experience evaluating plant diseases in greenhouse and field research trials; experience managing laboratory and greenhouse research; excellent interpersonal and communication skills; and demonstrated ability to work independently and as a member of a team.

    Preferred Qualifications: Supervisory experience; experience conducting laboratory, greenhouse and field research evaluating potato diseases. Experience conducting research with soil microbiology/microbiome or plant-environment interactions, next generation sequencing and genome analysis; development, optimization and validation of molecular detection and quantification assays for plant pathogens. High energy and enthusiasm for science that may serve to inspire students, project members, stakeholders, and potential project supporters.
