Actuarial Fellow utilizes statistical analysis and modeling to assess and manage risk and estimate financial outcomes. Compiles, prepares, and analyzes data to develop statistical models, probability tables, and actuarial studies and evaluate the likelihood and financial impact of various risks. Being an Actuarial Fellow assists with product design and development by analyzing risk groups and calculating appropriate insurance rates, premium levels, and rating systems and structures. Records and tracks accruals, claims, and settlements and prepares documents for input into regulatory filings, financial budgets, forecasts, and other financial projections. Additionally, Actuarial Fellow applies knowledge of mathematics, probability, statistics, principles of finance and business to calculations in life, health, social, and casualty insurance, annuities, and pensions. Requires a bachelor's degree. Requires Fellow of Society of Actuaries (FSA). Typically reports to a manager. To be an Actuarial Fellow typically requires 12+ years of related experience. Achievement and depth of knowledge of specialization or field is the main differentiator. Advisory role on complex and challenging projects and initiatives.     Summary of Job Duties:*This requisition is for those who were matched to a fellowship program at UAMS in 2024*

    The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) College of Medicine (COM) provides training, in association and cooperation with its affiliated participating institutions, in Graduate Medical Education programs that meet the standards established by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and its Review Committees. Requirements for training are outlined through ACGME Institutional and program requirements to include eligibility, core competencies, levels of supervision, etc. Additionally, Fellows must follow UAMS and UAMS COM policies and procedures. Fellowship responsibilities are outlined in the Resident/Fellow Agreement of Appointment.Qualifications:

    M.D. D.O. or MBBS required.

    Responsibilities:

    • Under the direction of the Program Director (or designee) and supervision by attending physicians, assume responsibilities for the safe, effective and compassionate care of all assigned patients, consistent with the trainee's level of education and experience.

    • Participate fully in the educational and scholarly activities of the residency program and, as required, assume responsibility for teaching and supervising other trainees, medical students and other ancillary health students.

    • Develop and participate in a personal program of self-study and professional growth with guidance from the teaching staff.

    • Participate in institutional programs, committees, councils, and activities involving the medical staff as assigned by the program director, and adhere to the established policies, procedures and practices (to include standards of behavior) of UAMS and its participating sites.

    • Participate in the evaluation of the program and its faculty.

    • Develop an understanding of ethical, socio-economic, and medical-legal issues that affect the practice of medicine.

    • Participate in educational experiences required to achieve competence in patient care, medical knowledge, practice-based learning improvement, interpersonal and communications skills, professionalism, and systems-based practice.

    • Keep charts, records, and reports up-to-date and signed at all times and complete medical records according to the rules and regulations of the participating hospital.

    • Demonstrate responsibility for the management of their time before, during, and after clinical assignments.

    • Adhere to Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) institutional and program requirements including the accurate reporting of clinical learning and educational work hours.

    • Complete all steps in the electronic on-boarding checklist and any additional written or electronic documentation required to complete the appointment process within the designated timeframe.

    • Decline anything of monetary value from patients or industry without verification of its appropriateness with UAMS Administrative Guide policies.

    • Conduct himself/herself in accordance with the laws and regulations that apply to compliance matters and to report any information of possible wrongdoings, errors, or violations of the law through the appropriate reporting mechanism.
