POSITION SUMMARY

The Activity Specialists facilitate a variety of activities for Day and Overnight Campers, grades K-8th. This position will receive training in archery, zip line, outdoor high ropes, rock climbing, arts and crafts, and Willem’s Discovery Place nature curriculum. This position is required to live on site. Schedule: Sunday - Friday. Must be at least 18 years of age.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Be a patient, enthusiastic role model for our campers and staff
• Facilitate all scheduled activities for campers in overnight, day, horse camp, or visiting groups
• Plan skill based activity curriculum
• Maintain an updated inventory of activity equipment and supplies
• Support staff and teach counselor responsibilities when they are present at your activity with campers
• Assume the role and duties of counselor as determined by the Summer Camp Director

Performs any other functions necessary for the smooth and efficient operation of the YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids

COMPENSATION

• This position is required to live on site, housing is provided. Applicants should expect to serve as evening coverage in Overnight Camp cabins. Meals are provided Sunday - Friday. Staff are allowed to remain on site during the weekends throughout their seasonal employment if they choose. Scheduled time off will be granted each day.
• $6.00 - $70.00 per day; Seasonal; Non-Exempt

Requirements

KNOW HOW

• At least 18 years of age and a high school graduate or equivalent
• Previous experiences in camp, youth programs, recreation, working with children, or in a related field
• Organizational skills to plan, schedule, and facilitate programs
• Ability to give supervision and guidance to staff
• Ability to plan, lead and/or assist in teaching an activity
• Ability to teach leadership skills
• Ability to teach and role model the Core Values of the YMCA and use of 21st century life skills

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

• Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) required
• First Aid Certification required
• Blood Borne Pathogen training
• State of Michigan criminal background clearance (ICHAT)
