Being an Accounts Payable/Receivable Manager monitors account aging reports, identifies delinquent accounts, and refers accounts to collection agencies. Verifies customer credit limits and applicable payment terms. Additionally, Accounts Payable/Receivable Manager designs and implements standard policies and procedures to ensure accurate and compliant financial records. Audits methods and procedures of the accounts payable and receivable functions to improve efficiency. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a director. The Accounts Payable/Receivable Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. Associate Director of Student Accounts, Accounts Receivable Manager

  • George Fox University's Student Accounts department is looking for a highly motivated individual to join their team and serve as the Accounts Receivable Manager, Associate Bursar which is referred to internally as the Associate Director of Student Accounts.


    About the Job:

    The Associate Director (Accounts Receivables Manager / Associate Bursar) plays a pivotal role in our technology-based customer service environment. They must embody innovation, sound judgment, active listening, kindness, and a strong sense of responsibility and accountability. This position serves as a leader in the department's "front office," overseeing a team of specialists and managing related procedures, customer services, and communications.

    This individual will effectively deliver on the GFU Be Known Promise, particularly through student receivables and customer service. They must possess the ability to discern, evaluate, and balance financial risk while remaining dedicated to empowering students to complete their degrees. With the authority to enforce policy and make exceptions when necessary, this role significantly impacts student retention and collections processes.


    Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

    • Hiring, leading, training, supervising, evaluating and delegating tasks to staff who are responsible for student receivables and related customer services.
    • Defining problems and taking appropriate action, innovatively addressing long term solutions, and implementing procedures to impact retention, mitigate liability, and to assure customer service goals are met.
    • Collecting data, establishing facts, drawing valid conclusions and completing required reports.
    • Serving as the Veterans (VA) Coordinator for certifications and VA billings. Responsible for VA related compliance and audits.
    • Being responsible for undergraduate student payment estimators and clearance processes for all populations while executing delegated authority and decision making.
    • Working with students, parents, guarantors and departments setting restrictions, limiting payment options, blocking registration and access to diplomas and transcripts as is allowed by law, enforcing pre-payment status' and recommending students for administrative action such as withdrawal, drop and dismissal.
    • Overseeing billing operations, assisting the Director of Student Accounts with the withdraw processes, overseeing withdraws to assure Title IV compliance is met, managing the account transfer process from current to non-current student accounts.
    • Working closely with the Financial Aid Office for timely disbursement of aid, identifying compliance concerns, Satisfactory Academic Progress impacts, retention and advocacy for departmental priorities.
    • Collaborating and working closely with the Admissions, Career and Academic Planning (CAP) Center and Financial Aid Offices.
    • Directing and leading processes relating to new students to assure the best possible first experience.
    • Assisting the Director in strategically addressing departmental communication and customer service needs.
    • Serving as a representative of GFU to prospective students, parents and guarantors.
    • Managing data points, such as service indicators, financial risk coding, payment plans, and overrides.
    • Overseeing late fee related appeals and assisting with financial appeals. Tuition appeals as delegated.
    • Working closely with those managing third party billings. For example, employers, College Savings Plans, foreign governments.
    • Assisting with PeopleSoft troubleshooting, testing and reporting issues to the Associate Director of Systems Operations within the department.
    • Leading and giving input on shared workspaces, Google suite, web pages edits and other office needs.
    • Executing, writing, and distributing queries / reports for management and internal constituents.
    • Communicating effectively and courteously with others, including employees, students, and the public, in a spirit of teamwork, respect and customer service.
    • By actions, words, and lifestyle, be a Christian role model to students, whether through casual contact or in a formal supervisory role.
    • Demonstrating awareness, respect, and appreciation for diversity of culture, background, race, sex, political views, expressions of faith, etc. and works well with a variety of people.

    A day in the life of this position:

    Throughout the day, the Associate Director supervises staff, ensures exceptional customer service, evaluates financial risks, makes policy decisions, problem-solves strategically, and collaborates with colleagues. Adaptable and responsive, the Associate Director addresses emerging issues promptly while embodying the Be Known Promise and advancing the organization's mission. Daily responsibilities could include strategic problem-solving, recognizing and celebrating successes, and providing recommendations to the Director as needed. Additionally, the Associate Director assumes leadership responsibilities in the Director's absence, ensuring continuity and excellence in service delivery.


    We're looking for candidates who have:

    • A Bachelor's degree, however, competency and a combination of related experience, supervision, leadership and office management is equally valued and will be considered.
    • Three years of comparable or related experience.
    • The demonstrated ability to use good judgment, active listening, effective decision making, strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills while maintaining high ownership and team values.
    • The demonstrated ability to deliver a difficult message with kindness and dignity, without undermining the action, while maintaining personal composure in high stress situations.
    • The demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks, set goals, and maintain a strong detail orientation while being under tight deadlines.
    • Computer proficiency including Microsoft Office, Google Suite experience and Excel, along with the ability to quickly learn and use technology/data to inform decisions.
    • Strong customer service, initiative, deductive reasoning and analytical thinking skills.
    • The demonstrated ability to maintain discretion and integrity in maintaining confidentiality; including but not limited to FERPA.
    • The ability to communicate effectively in English, orally and in writing, including on the telephone and in-person while listening, clarifying, understanding, giving and following instructions.

    Preference will be given to those with the following attributes:

    • Experience with accounts receivables in a technology-based environment.
    • Experience using integrated software systems.
