Accounting Supervisor jobs in New York

Accounting Supervisor supervises accounting staff in daily operations of one or more accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, ledger maintenance, revenue, and asset accounting. Oversees calculating, posting, and verification of financial data for use in maintaining accounting and statistical records. Being an Accounting Supervisor ensures all analysis and reporting are accurate and prepared in compliance with accounting policies and procedures. Establishes and implements productivity and quality standards. Additionally, Accounting Supervisor typically requires a bachelor's degree in accounting or equivalent. Typically reports to a manager. The Accounting Supervisor supervises a group of primarily para-professional level staffs. May also be a level above a supervisor within high volume administrative/ production environments. Makes day-to-day decisions within or for a group/small department. Has some authority for personnel actions. To be an Accounting Supervisor typically requires 3-5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. Thorough knowledge of functional area and department processes.     Role Responsibilities- Accounting Supervisor:
    • Prepare and analyze quarterly internal consolidated and consolidating financial statements including Work in Process (WIP) Schedules
    • Manage month-end closing schedule and oversee preparation of all account reconciliations, preparation and review of journal entries in the GL
    • Prepare variance analyses for specific accounts to assist the FP&A and leadership teams in identifying key insights
    • Lead various accounting transaction cycles, while focusing on improving the established processes
    • Assist with annual external audits by preparing schedules, documenting, and explaining procedures
    • Lead or assist on ad-hoc projects as needed (e.g. tax compliance, system implementations).

    Preferred Qualifications- Accounting Supervisor:

    • 6 years of construction (cost to cost) accounting experience
    • Previous supervisory experience
    • Solid communication skills and ability to manage a team
    • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Finance, Accounting or CPA highly preferred
    • Advanced Excel capabilities/knowledge
    • Strong understanding of US GAAP
