Accounting Supervisor jobs in Maryland
Accounting Supervisor supervises accounting staff in daily operations of one or more accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, ledger maintenance, revenue, and asset accounting. Oversees calculating, posting, and verification of financial data for use in maintaining accounting and statistical records. Being an Accounting Supervisor ensures all analysis and reporting are accurate and prepared in compliance with accounting policies and procedures. Establishes and implements productivity and quality standards. Additionally, Accounting Supervisor typically requires a bachelor's degree in accounting or equivalent. Typically reports to a manager. The Accounting Supervisor supervises a group of primarily para-professional level staffs. May also be a level above a supervisor within high volume administrative/ production environments. Makes day-to-day decisions within or for a group/small department. Has some authority for personnel actions. To be an Accounting Supervisor typically requires 3-5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. Thorough knowledge of functional area and department processes. - Approve non-purchase order payment requests and contract maintenance.
- Serve as primary contact for auditors from the Maryland (MD) State Department of Education, independent accounting firms, Department of Legislative Services, and others.
- Prepare Management’s Discussion and Analysis and take responsibility for the accuracy of financial statements.
- Perform analysis needed for annual financial statements regarding leases, SBITAs, pension, OPEB, and other items as needed.
- Collaborate with and review the work of contracted independent auditor of school financial records, including distribution of reports.
- Maintain capital project fund transactions as well as billings to the State of MD.
- Maintain self-insurance fund financial records and assist with the development of rates, required IRS filings, and other analyses.
- File refund claims for MD fuel tax.
- Maintain payroll control sheet and coordinate all required federal and state filings, pension audits, pension contributions and fees, and rate updates.
- Perform numerous detailed functions directly related to general responsibilities.
- Demonstrate a courteous and professional demeanor to all WCPS stakeholders.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer and other office equipment.
- Must have the use of sensory skills to effectively communicate and interact with students, other staff, and parents as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, and hear.
- Maintain emotional control under stress.
- Ability to travel district-wide and state-wide if needed.
- Ability to work prolonged and irregular hours.
