Accounting Clerk performs routine accounting activities such as data entry, maintenance of the general ledger, preparation of various accounting statements and financial reports. Reviews, codes, and verifies transactions including billings, invoices, checks, and journal entries. Being an Accounting Clerk assists in completing moderately complex calculations using spreadsheets and other software tools. Reconciles accounts and bank statements. Additionally, Accounting Clerk has a basic understanding of bookkeeping and accounting principles. Requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Accounting Clerk works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. Possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job.     The successful candidate will assist with day-to-day financial management activities and special projects to

    include the following:

    • Processing accounts payable to include vendor invoice payments in CBO’s financial system, the Legislative Branch Financial Management System (LBFMS).
    • Assisting with daily budget tasks including but not limited to requirements tracking and budget forecasting.
    • Completing annual internal control assessments over CBO’s key business processes.
    • Assisting with quarterly reviews of CBO’s spend plan and open obligations.
    • Assisting with financial reporting activities.
    • Interviewing stakeholders, gathering information, and documenting OFM standard operating procedures.
    • Assisting with CBO’s year-end activities

    Requirements:

    • A minimum of 5 years of experience in finance or business.
    • Background or degree in finance or business.
    • Experience working with the Federal Government is a plus
    • Expert knowledge in Microsoft Office, particularly Microsoft Excel.
    • Familiarity with financial accounting software programs/suites.
    • Experience working with the LBFMS (also known as Momentum) is preferred.
    • Experience in audit and/or internal controls.
    • Knowledge of the federal government budget and budget execution.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Must be able to successfully pass a background check.
