Job Title: Accountant

The Education Fund is a non-profit partnership between SEIU UHW-West and Healthcare Industry Employers; on a mission to accelerate the careers of over 100,000 SEIU eligible Healthcare Workers through innovative education and training solutions. Principal Purpose of Job: An Accountant provides both administrative and financial support in organization provides primary accounting function for all grant monitoring administration, compliance, grant accounting, and financial reports of awarded grants through their final closing to make sure that the organization financial operates smoothly, accurately, and effectively.

Level of Authority: Works in coordination with other staff members of the Accounting Department, under general organizational policies and procedures.

Work Environment: Most of the work is performed in a fast-paced office setting with frequent interruptions.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

• Plans, organizes, and coordinates the centralized accounting and financial reporting for assigned grant portfolio.
• Set up new grants, sub grantees, state grant and federal grant
• Tracks grant monthly billing expenses, processes grants expense reports, and prepares analyses of accounts.
• Corresponds with vendors, maintains updated vendor, students and participants profile record
• Carry out grant closing activities
• Monitor compliance with internal policies related to grant funds and in applicable grant regulations
• Ensures the ready availability of financial documentation.
• Prepare monthly journal entries and reconcile grants reports
• Preparing Grant project budgets and forecasting
• Work closely with program managers on grant modifications
• Reconcile both cash and leverage grants for federal match
• Assemble information for external auditors for the annual audit
• Collaborates with teams across the entire organization
• Cross train in Accounts Payable and Payroll
• Assist with special projects as necessary

Qualifications

Qualifications and Capabilities:

• Degree in Business Administration or Accounting or equivalent is preferred
• Minimum of 3 years experience in a computerized accounting department environment. Five years of experience preferred.
• Minimum of two years experience with accounting and reporting for federal grants
• Familiarity with Office of Management and Budget compliance a-133 audit requirements
• Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously within strict timelines/deadlines.
• Strong analytical mind, interpersonal skills, and ability to work in a dynamic environment.
• Top notch customer service background serving a diverse array of internal and external stakeholders
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (V-lookup, advanced formulas, and pivot tables) are required
• Experience working with payroll systems like ADP or Paycom is a strong plus
• Experience in Accounting System such as Blackbaud, Sage Intacct, Financial Force, Concur, Paycom System is strongly preferred.
• Excellent written, oral and problem-solving skills
• Flexibility regarding schedules and assignments
• Critical thinking skills, judgment, tact and a professional demeanor required
• Experience working within a union or non-profit or service organization environment is preferred

• Ability to sit at a workstation for extended time periods.
