Assists students in setting academic goals, course planning and career development. Being an Academic Advisor may work with individual students or groups. Requires a bachelor's degree in counseling or related field or its equivalent. Additionally, Academic Advisor typically reports to a supervisor or manager. This is a school term, job level 6 ($21.94/hour), 7.0 hours per day (8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with a half hour duty free lunch) position at Bemidji High School. The person in this position is responsible for assisting students with career/academic planning, presentations, and scheduling. Candidates must have flexibility to travel for college visits. Candidates must possess strong organizational skills, excellent communication/speaking skills, the ability to work with youth, and a knowledge of post-secondary education options, scholarships and financial aid. Candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent. Preference will be given to candidates with post-secondary education. Indian preference guidelines will be followed as applied through state and federal guidelines.
